Jellybean
Hey I was going to get some Aluminium Blots/nuts ; are these ok to use on the Struts and engine cover etc Engine dress mainly Or should I use Titanium ; is Aluminium bolts safe to use? pedrosixfour
The aluminium might be prone to corrosion/oxidisation/furring due to proximity to other metals, this is ok on exposed surfaces where it can be cleaned but a real PITA when it happens to treads and such. I'm not sure how titanium would react as I am far too poor to have any experience with such exotic materials! Titanium would be far superior strength-wise too I'd imagine, which is vital for any fasteners that are load-bearing or of critical importance. pedrosixfour
never knew that about Aluminium (prone to corrosion) As far as I know its just a kind of electrolysis that occurs between unlike metals in contact, with the crap from the everyday world of driving thrown into the mix. The result is that white powdery substance you find on and eating into aluminium. Not a good thing to have in bolt holes or around nuts as it will make any future dismantling a task and a half. hodge
My entire external engine bolts are titanium. Very expensive but well worth it IMO.
Jellybean
My entire external engine bolts are titanium. Very expensive but well worth it IMO. John did you get yours off dress up bolts ? I am currently looking at ProBolts but they are very $$$$$; just for the 6 nuts for the suspension struts ; Probolts is about 100 euro !!! Dress up bolts is doing a Supra specific kit for $279 dollars ; with 58 titanium pieces ; I reckon to get the same kit off Probolts it is easy double the cost if not triple The bolts I need for the Steering hub are around 38 gbp off probolts but the Mountain Bike shops will do the M5 bolts X Qty 6 for around 20 euro delivered (Titanium); big difference in prices I priced up Qty 20 M10 Stainless steel bolts off Probolts , around 100 euro; they seem very $$$ Edited January 8, 2013 by Jellybean (see edit history)
Dnk
I'd do a google search for Titanium fastners. The problem you have is wanting such small quantities and this is where Pro-Bolt come in but you pay for it Didn't one of the traders put a few kits together a while ago ? I'm sure they were cheaper but still not cheap if you know what i mean Edited January 8, 2013 by Dnk (see edit history)
j_jza80
My priority for engine bay bolts would be that they are magnetic, especially for the plug cover!

j_jza80
Why ? Because they have a habit of falling into hard to reach places Have you never noticed the number of Supras with several of the plug cover bolts missing?
Dnk
I've never had a problem but see where your coming from.

I have a friend who was a pro bolt distributor/dealer and I got a lot of mine for free. All in if I paid retail for them all they would have cost me well over a grand for the lot. They are very nice bits of kit and the weight difference compared to stock is less that half.
jay200bhp
as hodge says i have 400 -500 of probolt ti under the bonnet etc, the best but please only use ti not alu for the steering boss .also if needed to take on and off a fair bit etc then use ti as the alu is soft as anything and the allen heads snarl up
