berg
Anyone using 3" intercooler pipework on theres does it fit ok? I have a load of it spare from my old car so would save me buying a kit if it does Will be using an intercooler with both inlet/outlets on the same side
Fly
Intercooler with exit and entry on the same side would be easier to fit, give it a shot with 3 inch pipe work see what happens
ballsdeep
its a tight fit but don't we all like it tight i did some final tweaks but you get the idea..
berg
Wow looks massive in the pics lol Ive ordered the cooler so ill see how the pipework fits hopefully it will clear the top of the turbo ok
ballsdeep
should be fine as long as you get a turbo blanket: im thinking of wrapping the pipes with this stuff to keep temps down? http://www.thermalvelocity.co.uk/Heat-Shield-Tape/Magmashield-Tape/p-150-453/
Fly
I really need a turbo blanket
ballsdeep
lol yeah i wouldn't chance it, i only got a cheap one off ebay it will do the job for now! what plugs are you using, iv got a misfire when i press the loud pedal briefly to the floor, i don't go over 3000 rpm!! Fly
It's more the heat soak into the intake. I run bk7es plugs I think they are they are suggested for tt at bpu level and are gapped at 0.5 mm Missfire....oh dear as fosta and noz told me its usually ignitor or coil pack or like me maybe the wrong resistors and a rubbish map!! Fly
I like how you have relocated your reservoir to next to the battery that's a good idea though my oil cooler lines run through there should be fine as long as you get a turbo blanket: http://i1284.photobucket.com/albums/a580/gazlarr/IMG_1111_zps3f6fedb2.jpg im thinking of wrapping the pipes with this stuff to keep temps down? http://www.thermalvelocity.co.uk/Heat-Shield-Tape/Magmashield-Tape/p-150-453/
ballsdeep
I like how you have relocated your reservoir to next to the battery that's a good idea though my oil cooler lines run through there I had no choice, my fmic was in the way, where's yours fitted? i still haven't fitted my oil cooler but my oil temps seem ok. as for my misfire im thinking maybe ignitor or ignition coil too, would be nice to have spares to try on mapping day but first thing is order some new plugs,
Fly
When are you going for mapping? Mine is in the stock place my fmic sits underneath but that means the fmic sits quite low
ballsdeep
i need a slap just had a thought!! the misfire may have something to do with the ecu resetting itself.. mapping day is the 8th july :D:D:D im not that excited...
Fly
If you don't cure it I an send you my coil and ignitor if you need to take spares. Wouldn't have thought an ecu reset would cause that as all you loose are the base fuel trims
ballsdeep
your a legend, i may take you up on that offer if you don't mind. will see how it goes first. i need to clock up a few miles anyway to find out if my firewall insulation is smoking or its my heat wrap, the dp is touching unfortunately
berg
How do you guys go about your base map once your cars are ready to hit the road? I have bought a GReddy emanage ultimate which ill be wiring in but i guess it will need some sort of base map so i can drive it to the mappers Ill do any mechanical job but i sont fancy messing with the tuning side of things..could be costly
ballsdeep
copied this from a pm off FOSTA, also fly did a superb job finding how to run the support tool on a windows 7 laptop. Once you have installed your emanage plug in your cable from emanage to laptop, then click on the little blue car symbol. This will bring up the " Parameter Settings". Click on -VEHICLE then select -2JZ-GE. This will then input all your engines sensor types for you. Then click on -FRONT PANEL and then -OPTION 1 and select - GREDDY PRESSURE SENSOR. ( this is for the 3bar map sensor that you should of installed). Leave all maps empty and DON'T select anything else. And now we have out base map! You can only cruise with this - STAY IN -NEGITIVE PRESSURE/ NO BOOST and you can drive it all day long.
Fly
Berg, for base map just set up the base parameters , that will give you the ability to start and drive to the mappers. Don't go over 3k and don't go wide open throttle until it's mapped. Glad you got an ultimate!! Did you get a map sensor too? You could use the af target map with a wideband O2 to give you a rough base butthts a tad a level Beaten to it
berg
Legend, cheers mate Cant wait to get cracking just waiting for the turbo to arrive its been processing for the last 3 days now! Should get a thread up too i suppose When its mapped what sort of boost pressure do you think will be needed for around 400 ish?

Are you getting heat soak, how do you know your getting heat soak, will this be a modification that you will have no way of seeing if it makes an improvement, is there a problem this will solve. If you can't answer all these questions then spend the money on sensors first, as you might be wasting your cash if there isn't an issue matey! I don't know mate Im gullible if you told me a chocolate fire place was a good idea I'd buy one! The pipe gets hot, not as hot as the air intake pipe so the intercooler is doing its job but I just though the cooler the better?

The pipe gets hot, not as hot as the air intake pipe so the intercooler is doing its job but I just though the cooler the better? The cooler the better yes for sure. I get heat soak through mine as well. a FFIM would be better for that. But, get an air intake sensor if you think it's an issue. I'm going to install one in my inlet manifold. That's the best place for heat soak measuring if you think it's a worry. But one on your throttle body or just before would be better suited. Maybe get a heat shield as well?
