Mil on

Hey guys,

I have searched on here, and some other forums as well, but I have not been able to solve this issue.

I have a Jspec tt (gz) and the MIL lamp has been on since I got it roughly 6 months ago. When I short the two pins to get the fault codes, the check engine lamp just flashes constantly with no pauses. I take this to mean that there are no stored codes? I have checked the brake fluid container and it is filled, and has been since I got it. The brake pads are new, and the hand brake light (!) goes off when it is released.

All lamps light up when the ignition is turned during the check sequence, and then they extinguish. The boot is closed firmly, and that is verified by the open door lamp extinguishing when closed.... I can't think of anything else to check..

The car drives without issues, except a rear wheel bearing that makes noises from time to time, this will get sorted soon.

please help [sAD][/sAD]

The front spoiler was removed since the car came with an aftermarket front bumper. I would see a green light flash on occasion next to the spoiler switches, but I usually have the switch in the off position. The mil light stays on constantly. The spoiler ecu is still in there though. I recently sprayed the terminals of the antenna relay, abs and active spoiler ecus with some crc in an attempt to eliminate connection issues in the hopes of solving this problem.

Guys thanks for your input thus far.

A bit of an update... I just realized that not all my warning lights were lighting up, on the left cluster the air bag light does not seem to show up. I never realized it before because I have never seen it before... Unless the MIL is trying to tell me that a dash light is blown, I have no idea what else to do as a receck of the diagnostic codes still reveals no stored error codes.

I searched around for checking the abs codes and found conflicting information. One says bridge E1 and Tc pins, and remove a short connector/jumper and switch on the ignition, and another does not mention the jumper so I tried both methods and got the same results with the ABS, and slip count off lights flashed repeatedly.

As far as I have found out, only the ABS light should flash?

Hey guys,

I pulled the cluster of lights out and took a look at the air bag warning lamp. I saw that one of the leads of the bulb was not making contact, and the bulb looked ok. Sure enough, re seating the lead solved the problem of the missing lamp, but now the air bag lamp and the master warning lamp stays on after the engine is started, and still no stored codes!

Any ideas?

Johnny.

If it's a US / UK / EU spec car the air bag light has to be reset to put it and the MIL light out. At least, as far as I can recall, if the air bag light needs resetting the MIL light is also on all the time, but with no fault codes stored. Resetting the air bag light needs the ignition keying on and off very fast or something, I forget now, but do a search on re-settting air bag light. Not done one for years now, if you take the dash apart and turn the ignition on on a UK car it will trigger the air bag light, so I make sure I don't do that :) Someone may have triggered the light, not known how to reset it, and decided to disable the bulb instead. How's the weather there, got a guest room? ;)

As Chris says, the if you've had the ignition on with your dash disconnected it'll cause your airbag light to need to be reset, i've had that problem myself, there is a thread on here somewhere of how to do it.

Also, your active spoiler. Unplug the active spoiler ecu, if its still connected and has no feedback from the motor (for what position it is in) it will also bring up a warning light, the main one in my experience.

Thanks guys. I just did the air bag reset. Took me about 5 seconds to get it off. I followed the thread I found, but since I did not have anyone else to monitor the lamp for me I made a wire harness with 3 "gator clips", long enough to reach the cabin. Two clips for AB and TC clamped on 2 paper clips and shoved into the terminals of the diagnostic port and the third gator clip on the negative battery terminal.

The main warning lamp is still on, but it seems to be a bit dimmer as it gets a little brighter when I open the door. I believe I am getting close to getting it off entirely.

The dash has been removed before I got the car for certain. When I ordered it from japan it had a 7 inch dvd player/nav, but this was taken out/stolen along with the stereo brackets while the car was in transit to me. Took me a while to track down a rhd pair of brackets, but I finally got them a few weeks ago.

Anyways, I will pull the plug on the active spoiler ecu and try adding a little more dot 4 fluid and update you guys.

Chris the weather is a little gloomy, at the moment, expecting some rain but still nice! You been to the caribbean?

Is the MIL light now off? Just the big red triangle still on? If so check that the brake fluid reservoir is slightly above the full mark, the level sensor is very sensitive and pessimistic. Also check the passenger and driver door switches have not got dirty contacts . I am not well travelled, been to France and Beirut, and nearly everywhere in the UK, that's it.... :(

Ohh I think I made a mistake, I was referring to the big red triangle in the middle of the odo. At the time of creating this thread I thought it was called the malfunction indicator lamp. But I see now that the check engine light is the MIL and the red triangle is the Master warning lamp. I should have titled the thread MWL on instead. Sorry for the confusion, but it is off now :)

I had a feeling you meant the main warning indicator;) 100% that it was the active spoiler ecu causing it. Glad its sorted:thumbs:

I Did not suspect the active spoiler because I expected it to throw a code up when the car hits 50mph or so. Most claim their warning lamp would come on then, and go off after they have turned the car off and started it up again.

I'm just glad one issue is sorted.. Now I have to get my rear end inspected to find out whats causing that dodgy noise

Please have a look at my other thread "strange noise" and post any ideas you my have.

Thanks once again guys, couldn't do it without you guys pointing me in the right direction ;)

Mine did the same as yours, as soon as i removed the active spoiler my warning light was on, only went off after i removed the ecu

Maybe it was something you ate?:sly:
