hey guys. really hope somebody can guide me in the right direction. i was coming home from a convention about 1 month ago. i get to the end of the motorway slip road and stop for oncoming traffic. the car stalls. i get it started again to limp of to a laybay and i mean limp. the car is blowing black smoke out of the exhust. i turned the car of. left it for around half an hour. checked the oil as you do the oil is like new and at the correct level. so i start the again and loads of black smoke. i drive to my mechanic at less than 30mph because the car has went into limp mode. the car was idling eroticly and i couldnt let the accelerator of because the car stalled. the mechanic puts new spark plugs in. still same problem. checks rotor and distributor burn to a crisp, replaced them still the problem consists. check compression all is perfect, checked the timing, perfect. bridged the diagnostic port and got no codes. left it for a day done it again and got code 42, went back the other day to try again and opened the bonnet and my alarm went of. wouldnt stop when i dissarmed it. started the car to make sure it had deimmobilised it car starts but problem still there. guys please give me some advice.

regards eddie

Is it only me or is "eroticly" the only word that anyone picked up!? :D

Seriously, black smoke = over fuelling or unburnt fuel. Assuming your mechanic knows what he's looking for, the ignition system seems to have been covered. Could be ECT sensor, ISCV, leaky injector, Fuel pressure control valve... Needs diagnosing properly as opposed to guessing at. Someone else has already guessed at it it would seem so it could end up costing a fortune!
