Will prices ever go up again?

I think the prices will go up. But not any time soon. I'd say it will be around 8 to 10 years time before anyone notices any decent or noticeable increase. Same with all cars approaching their 20th birthday. The prices will continue to drop until all the dogs out there are crashed or sent to the breakers. Prices will only start to creep up when there are only good examples remaining.

As an owner's club we could control the prices slightly but it would take a monumental effort by not selling good examples for less than they are worth. Sadly, we are not all in the position where we can afford to do this and if the car has to go, then it has to go, regardless of value.

I watch the UK market steadily and also recognized the price drop.

For me as a supporter of the MKIV for about 15 years the price drop is crazy. The Supra is still a great performance car, no matter if NA, TT, AT or MT.

There are NAs sold for under 2K pounds and UK TT6 for 4,5K. - really? I'm sure recession does it's part.

I'm in the lucky position to say that there are less than 100 MKIV Supras registered down here in Austria. A Sura is an exotic down here.

Prices start at 10K € for a good NA. Germany spec cars are sold for I'd say about 25K €.

There seems to be no thread without the new R35 being mentioned. :)

I think in about 15 years the R34 will be worth double the value of the R35.

I think in a decade the R35 will be one of the cheapest supercars available, just because of the fact that there are so many being produced and they're so superfast.

It was surprised to see for how less compared to the price when new a 2009 GTR goes now in the UK.

Don't get me wrong - I drove a R35 back in the states last september and I loved it - but it doesn't give me the feeling that I have in a Supra. And yes, mine is NA and I'm proud of it and of its NA-BPU modifications :)

As a collector equipped with some quid you should buy as many unmodified supras as possible NOW :)

Regards, Herbert

Edit: bossco you're completely right. Prices will definitely go up again. It just takes time and I still doubt that prices have reached rock bottom.

Be better off selling them overseas then?

Depends on the car, they can't register converted NA's in a lot of places, Wayne's old car has never been on the road I hear.

The best thing to do is stop worrying about what they are worth IMO, just enjoy your car, if you are bored of it sell it for the best price you can and move on.

I guess so Rob, yes.

I had no other possibility than importing as there were only 19 LHD MKIV sold down here in Austria officially via Toyota Austria.

People that had the quid back in the day bought a 911 I guess.

The hard thing is to get these cars registered down here. It's a hassle :)

You have to fiddle with the goverment and pay tax and also tax for the CO2 pollution of the car.

The Austrian state earned about 1600€ with the registration of my Supra. :)

Once a Jspec car is registered down here it goes up with value.

Regards, Herbert

Edit: Jamie you're absolutely right. There's no way to register a NA-T down here. Therefore my car is NA and will allways be, alltough I invested as much as a turbo conversion. But that's because I'm stupid to squeeze out a few BHP while staying NA :)

RobD said he has so many spare parts/interior ect left over that if he had a nice shell he could almost build another NA.... I told him it would be the most depressing build thread ever but if you do decide to break he may want to buy ;)

The way I see it is the more I break the rarer they get! So in fairness I'm doing all of you a favour as the rarer they get the higher the price!

Now lets talk about commission from each sale ;)

I'm my opinion they'll only go up when they reach a certain age, when they getting close to 30-40 years old they will go up, look at the 2000gt for example, they can't be had for less than 250k for a clean one! I don't think the supra will be worth anywhere near that in years to come but they will rise, only 40k made, I reckon at least 10k have been scrapped at least now, so doesn't leave many!

The ones that will go up in value will be the completely stock examples though!

When they are worth £40k, a newspaper will cost 500 quid :D

Payed £11250 for mine in 2001, the mate I bought it off said he's give me that for it now.

I've spent 6K ish on it but I still think it's done well over the years.

BTW he has had several cars since including a brand new Ferrari 360 and still would love to have the Supra back :) Says loads about the sort of cars these are.

My Supe is 'mint-in-garage' so I’ll probably sell it for a million when it’s the last one around. I may take it for a spin in 2013, if not, then definitely in 2014.

On a not so jokey point, the Supra really is good value for money when compared to the new generation of PlayStation cars. If you take the GTR for instance then the value seems to be dropping off it fairly rapidly by the time it hits the 30,000 mile figure on the odometer due to service and consumable costs etc. The Supra on the other hand doesn’t seem to have suffered from such costly reductions in value.

My gf bought her na manual for 2k which was listed for 3.5k the year before. There was also another na manual for sale down the road for 1.5k. They have dropped dramatically. I bought mine for 5k 5 years ago which was the cheapest I found. TT's were out of my price range back then which were fetching 10+ k.

Exactly, at the end of the day the Supra is fairly bullet proof and cheapish to sort out when it does go wrong unlike the likes of the newer Jap cars which will require lots of cash throwing at them as the get older.

Exactly that Paul and I can’t see the likes of the new cars being any more valuable in the future just because someone has spent 10 grand on a gearbox upgrade. I reckon the new GTR is a bigger money pit than any Supra but it’s going to take a year or two for people to realise that.

we had this in another thread.

I bought mine for £40k, in 2009 they was £55k new, that's only £15k in 3 years, not that bad for a neŵ high performance car IMO, like most cars they have the big hit in the first few years.

Compare that to a 2009 Porsche 911 turbo, new £126,000, now 2009 911 turbos can be had for £60k, that's £66,000 in 3 years, shows how little the GTR has fallen in price.

Or how about a DBS, they have lost £100k in 3 years.

All that aside, i bought my car to use, i could not care less what its worth a few years down the line.

I reckon stock 6 speed prices will go up a fair but in years to come, but body kitted cars will suffer. I reckon loads of Supras will be scrapped over the next few years (mainly NAs) as they're becoming expensive to run for the performance they offer.

Also, special 'factory cars', like the RSP VVTi tip TRD3000GT we all love, will command a strong premium.

My opinion in the matter is: Any OEM Supra will hold its value very well, the loss is really suffered from when fortunes are spent modifying. Therefore to prevent from taking a massive loss when/if you decide to sell it buy good condition second hand parts from trust worthy forum members or traders. That way when you sell it you will make most of the money you bought it for as the parts took most of their depreciation when sold the first time.

Supra will always hold its value better then other cars of its era in my opinion, because of its over engineered mechanical parts and due to the fame created from the F&F movies.

I dont think prices will go up tbh, they may start to level out in a few years or so, just not the demand anymore.

Suprising though as in the US the Supra is still big money.

Its happened to all sorts of cars over the years, escort cosworth could have been had for sub £10k a few years ago. They seem to have picked up a bit now, but look at the sierra cosworth, they dropped to lowley prices and never recovered (ps im not talking about the 3dr).

Well. I don't really mind the values decreasing at all, as my Supra is now off the road until I can afford to run it again. :(

The BMW has been a practical 'replacement', but nowhere near as much fun.

Ho hum. It's the sign of the times, etc...

Your Supra will always command a strong value as its been done the right way. It's a rare model, in one of the best colours, and any work is very subtle. Inspirational car

In 6 years, when the Americans can start importing '93 cars, that might have a positive impact on prices, but probably not a lot (if at all)
