David P
Looks like you have tools for the job. Worst part is balancing and manoeuvring the transmissions on a trolley-jack, working on a level 'smooth' surface makes the job easier and safer. To gain easier access to the top bolts, drain the radiator, disconnect the hoses (fan-shrowd?) and lower the rear of transmission. Watch the engine as you lower it, you'll see when to stop. Keep the job clean. Hope that helps. Edited December 26, 2012 by David P (see edit history)

Chris Wilson
Make SURE you DO NOT round off the flex plate to torque converter bolts. You MUST remove the converter inside the bellhousing of the gearbox, and NOT leave it bolted to the flex plate. Make sure it doesn't fall out as you manoeuvre the gearbox. No real special tools needed.
Kaan W
AND!! Make sure when you put the torque converter and gearbox back on you somehow align the TC bolt holes to the flywheel holes. I had a hell of a trouble once it was all fixed together spinning the TC to align the holes up. Not sure what the proper procedure is but it took bloomin ages. Chris Wilson
The TC has to fully engage the drive dogs of the oil pump in the front of the gearbox. When it engages them it will push right back into the bell housing, well away from the flex plate, and spin freely with a slight rotational push. You MUST engage it with the pump drive *BEFORE* you refit the box. Otherwise it jams up against the flex plate, and damage can result. Plus it is hard or impossible to turn.... This is what I done and pushed it slowely into the box turning it before if clicked into place. But when I finally bolted the gearbox on the TC was pressed against the flywheel and I had to spin the TC by bending a coat hanger pulling it round until it aligned up Should there have been a gap between the TC and flywheel then? I been driving around hard accelerating with no problems so far lets just hope it was a fluke.
TubbyTwo
on the basis i haven't had much sleep the last few days I will get it booked into the garage for the swap. can't risk buggering it up, losing what little love is left and breaking the car. my little girl has decided she doesn't need to sleep until gone 3am the let me sleep for an hour before waking up again.... Josh42
I did my auto > manual conversion myself... We're no major issues or hiccups. Not something I'd want to do with lack of sleep though! Agree with your decision mate!
