Diagnostic box wire?

Recommended Posts

Seems an odd question but does anyone else have a wire coming out the top of there diagnostics box? I have not seen this before but it was like it when I bought the car and havent got a clue what its for. Its just annoying me as it looks kind of messy and the wire just goes to the back of the engine somewhere but dont know if its to stop any lights flashing etc from aftermarket parts fitted.

Any ideas chaps?

i got a clifford alarm with remote start and the fitter has got 1 wire going into mine now that was never there before so can only think its something to do with the immobiliser

best take a good look before removing

hope it helps?

Ah thats probably it then mate as I have a clifford remote start too. Thinking about it, it goes through the firewall in to the car so it most definately is that! Cheers fella :)

Yeah same as mate. I'll probably get a new cover for mine and run the wire downwards eventually for a cleaner look. Thanks for that :D

That's the TACH signal, i.e. revs. If it's to do with remote start then it probably cuts the engine if the revs get higher than idle, i.e. someone is trying to drive off with the car. Was it too hard for them to tap into the main wiring loom then?

So where can I tap into the main loom that gives the same signal?

With the wire there and doing what it's supposed to, you could tidily connect it into the loom below the block.

I could but there must be a better place for an alarm to tap in rather than going into the engine loom as Ian said.
