Guest Johnny A
Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me out with some information on the Mk4 TT clutch for the V160/161 gearbox. I am doing a little bit of digging to find a compatible clutch setup for my car and it looks like the TT friction plate uses the same centre spline as my gearbox (both the V160/161 and my gearbox were both made by Getrag). I know it's not a Toyota, it's a Vauxhall Carlton with a MK4 Astra turbo engine and an Omega (Getrag R25-28) 5-speed gearbox (I like a challenge!) but if it helps I have a 2JZ-GTE engine sitting on my floor waiting for me to afford an R154 box! My problem is I have reached the limits of the current 6-paddle clutch power rise and also being a daily driver it's horrid to use. I plan to pump out the power to 400bhp and make the design compound charged soon so a new clutch is needed, adapting a clutch from a much more powerful car is the obvious choice. I have a good friend who can produce a custom flywheel to suit any setup so that's no issue, but if anyone could answer a few questions or even sell me an old knackered friction plate as a mock up would be great. What is the overall diameter of the friction plate? Are all friction plates sprung, or are some solid (using a DMF)?? What sort of torque does the factory clutch handle? Many thanks for any help you can provide
Chris Wilson
Solid centre, uses a dual mass damped flywheel instead. Given my uprated pressure plate over 400 ft lbs is viable if not abused. I could put a stiffer diaphragm spring in, but I am not sure the stock fork and stuff would like it, long term, and I like redundancy in what I sell. I am sure the Yanks supply covers with more clamping pressure, but the pedal effort goes up substantially, and I have seen bad fork pivot wear. I have plenty of used driven plates, from near end of life to superb. I don't know the driven plate diameter off the top of my head but would happily measure it for you sometime. Guest Johnny A
Cheers chris, is every friction plate solid? Reason I ask is I have seen friction plates for sale that are sprung: and here: http://blog.titanmotorsports.com/?tag=supra-race-clutch but plenty of these like you described: http://img0010.popscreencdn.com/130903699_amazoncom-act-clutch-disc-for-1996---1998-toyota-supra-.jpg
Chris Wilson
All stock friction plates are solid hub, yes. The second photo looks like a stock plate. If you want measurements just e-mail me.
