SupraP-Z
Hey all, a couple of questions. Up until now ive been relatively satisfied with my j spec brakes...but need to overhaul them and thought i might as well change to UK spec while im at it. If im going to change my brakes, i may as well upgrade to the stainless steel lines, but what difference do these make? Do you have to buy seperate ones for j-spec/UK spec? or are all the lines the same? Also where to buy a set of these? And how to install them? cheers
safcdixon
They are all the same for jspec and uk spec ive had a set of do luck ones sitting around since the summer but havent fitted them yet, they are just a streight swap for the old ones really easy to fit, mine or on the list of things too fit. one bolt on each caliper then screw off the other end attached too the hard lines, easy peasy
Dnk
Goodridge do a kit for the mkiv or give CW a call or the traders on here. Approx £60 or there abouts Be a good idea to change your brake fluid at the same time as well, Motul RBF600 or RBF660 is very good and you buy it in half litre bottles
SupraP-Z
Cheers dudes, i am planning to give the car a full service, going to be changing the brakes at the same time. Calipers (colour change too, as atm they are rusty metal) discs, pads, full fluid change and stainless steel lines. Am i correct in thinking i just need to transfer the existing 2 pot j-specs from the front to the back, and put the UK specs on the front? so basically my existing 1 pot j spec rears will be superseeded. Im new to all this...but learning fast!
Dnk
It would be much better to fit the complete UK 4 piston 2 piston system, these dont have sliding calipers so there's less to seize up, old j specs are not worth messing with in my opinion. SupraP-Z
Ah ok, so the UK 2 pots are different from the J spec 2 pots. Cheers Dunk
Nic
Ah ok, so the UK 2 pots are different from the J spec 2 pots. Cheers Dunk Yes the larger rear 2pot calipers are completely different to the smaller 2pot front calipers and they are not interchangeable. Pics of the different calipers can be found HERE
SupraP-Z
Cheers nic, Dunk and Safcdixon. I need to change my wanted thread to a complete UK spec upgrade rather than just the fronts then
Dnk
Ah ok, so the UK 2 pots are different from the J spec 2 pots. Cheers Dunk Yes mate, the uk calipers front and rear have opposed pistons that squeeze the pads together The j specs have a sliding carrier set up with the pistons being on one side Have a read through the pdf file on the brakes If you look at page BR-28 you have the 2 piston sliding carrier type known as j specs, on BR-48 is the 1 piston rear. If you look on page BR-36 you have the 4 piston caliper known as UK spec, this is the same as the rear UK spec but with just 2 opposed pistons on BR-54BR.pdf Edited December 15, 2012 by Dnk (see edit history)
