imi
Hi all. This happened yesterday. Driving in 2nd gear, revd up the engine and tried to change into third, I pressed the clutch pedal and it wouldnt come back up and I couldnt get it into third. Car was then just coasting as I pulled it to the side of the road. I lifted the clutch pedal with my hands and now It wont go back down again. Got the car towed back home and its sitting outside. - Do I need a new Clutch? - Or is it something like a bearing OR a slave cylinder only? - Does it sound like the pressure plate only? - Are there any other checks I can do? Any help appreciated...
Whitesupraboy2
im not sure if the supra has a fluid type of clutch or cable, if it does have fluid type sounds like master cylinder maybe, or a small leak in system or possibly air, but when its air the peddle will normally come back at least a little bit. If its cable has the cable snapped? hopefully someone can confirm the type of clutch
Paul Whiffin
Sounds like something has broke, might be the bearing come away from the pressure plate, had that before on my own car. Easiest way to check is to take the inspection plates off the side of the gearbox and take a peek inside. Also check the slave cylinder/rod/master cylinder. Or just bring it down to us and we'll fix it for you!
imi
Paul...thx for the help. I will try and get the RAC to tow it upto you tomorrow morning....theyve been helpful so far, however they thought that the car had a clutch cable which it clearly doesnt, so they dont inspire any confidence in me...hence my post. When I bought the car a year ago, the seller told me that it has a triple plate clutch installed with a 2 yr unlimited mile warranty. I dont have any more details though so not sure what make the clutch is, etc? if that is true, then the clutch would still be in warranty.... Sean1933
I think the seal in the master cylinder may have gone, this happened with my skyline and i just replaced the seals, also check around the back of peddle, where the push rod comes through the bulk head and see if there is any leaking/dripping fluid. imi
Fluid level was low, below the minimum mark (and there is something like a sweetie / looks like a kingsize m&m....... in their floating on the top of the clutch fluid reservoir)......whats that for???? I just topped it up, still no joy though.
absz
its either slave or master clutch cylinders that are leaking, but top the system up and bleed the air out of the slave cylinder bleed nipple. you will have to get someone to keep pulling the pedal back up as it normally stays down. Paul Whiffin
Sorted this today for Imi, turned out to be the clutch bearing that had popped off the clutch cover, I'm getting a bit to good at this lark aren't I. The bearing was basically fitted incorrectly, we get quite a few like this. They work ok for awhile but are not held in correctly, as soon as you hit the rev limiter and cause a sudden jolt off it pops. Love to know who fitted this clutch originally! Cheers for keeping me upto date over the phone today. Really pleased that you managed to fix it. I'll come round tomorrow morning to collect the car, hopefully by then youll have identified and rectified the knocking noise from the suspension.. I'd like to get my hands on the muppet who fitted the clutch too
