Josh42
May sound a daft question, but, has anyone managed to retain the stock airbox when going NA-T? I just don't like the look of aftermarket air intakes, wondered if it would be possible to retain stock even if it requires some modification? listy
I don't know the answer to this, but anything is possible with some modification
-Welsh-Stealth-
Nope here, as this is what looks like: But hey could be possible?! Would mean some moding to the stock plastic piping to match up to the turbo. And you could always try running the ic piping a different route? You could run the intercooler piping the way it runs on a TT so through the wing, it may allow enough room to fit the stock airbox but I would imagine a custom intake pipe would be needed from the turbo to the stock box
Josh42
A custom intake pipe is what I had in mind anyway tbh mate:) How exactly does it run on a TT?
Littler
These are the best pictures I have with my FMIC:

Noz
The issue is the typical location for the air filter. If you make up some custom pipework and move the filter to the correct location, you could easily place it inside a box. The thing is, you need to weigh up the benefits to doing this. How many 600hp singles have found the need to? I would personally get it running, install some air-intake-sensors then create your custom pipework/box and compare the difference in temperature to ensure the benefits are worth it. I see a lot of modifications without comparing the differences or indeed ensuring the work was needed, you can help justify it to yourself as well if you know for sure the temp's will be lowered from an airbox. You may be one of the lucky ones and be able to pass a 4" intake pass the dizzy depending on your manifold alignment.
-Welsh-Stealth-
.... Or you could do it anyway?! Ha ha
-Welsh-Stealth-
Could go TT TB and plenum? Would look a lot tidier& would avoid heat soak on the ic piping... But these have been tested on the NA-T forum& lose a little performance compared with stock NA TB and plenum... *awaits abuse& death threats*
Noz
That sounds like your advertising to me Welshy. Better be careful mate lol. An airbox wouldn't hurt. I'd just want to make sure it was definitely worth it.
Josh42
A big thing for me is I don't like the look of cone/mushroom filters....
DodgyRog
You would be able to do, if it can be done on a TT then you must be able to on an N/A-T Take the Intercooler piping over the top and through the wing similar to this The only problem I can see is the N/A Airbox, as the pipe comes out of the back at a different angle making slightly less room for the Intercooler Pipes To give you an idea
-Welsh-Stealth-
That sounds like your advertising to me Welshy. Better be careful mate lol. You got me all wrong mate! pedrosixfour
I managed to use the NA airbox with my 1JZ TT engine. Took a few measurements and ordered some silicone elbows, joiners and such. Worked out a treat with the SMIC. It should be possible to make the same work for an NA-T if the stock intercooler pipe route through the wing is used.
