Emissions/Hi flow Cats/De cats

Hello guys and dolls,

First thread but been looking around here and found out a lot of info for the supra just from reading so thanks!

Onto my question, I don't want to go double decat cos come mot day I don't want to be messing about taking cat on an off due to failing the emission levels that would be high from a double decat

So has anyone Experience with Hi flow cats are they much good or as good as chocolate kettle haha?

My question/idea being...if I take the 1st cat out and put the hi flow cat in place of 2nd cat, how would the Emissions fair up?? :)

If you run double de-cat you will need a restrictor ring in place. Just put your 2nd cat (closest to the back box) back on cone mot time, that's what I do and so do alot of others.

I don't have experience with these other cats you talked about, hopefully someone with experience/better knowledge will be along later to help

P.s just noticed your from the borders? Where about? Get a proper newbie thread on the go :p

Thanks for the speedy reply!

Yeah iv read that it'd need a restrictor ring for a Double Decat

How easy is it to fit the 2nd cat back on by yourself... Providing that I don't have a lift or garage...it seems like a tight messy unsafe job being on jacks haha

If your talking about the cat closest to the manifold then it's a pain in the butt! I done both mine the use of a pit! If you ask a garage they can do it for you aswell. I get my garage to fit the cat closest to the back box back on before mot and back off after :)

I'd imagine it would but it was the furthest back I meant

Yeah I'd actually thought of that but thought the garage might cotton on what's happening, more money in there pocket I suppose :) hopefully someone can shed some light if using the high flow cat is good as an alternative

...Stupid emissions law :p

I've thought about fitting a sports cat - not just for MOT purposes, but just in case I was pulled for a roadside emissions/safety check.

From what I've read on various forums, a sports cat doesn't always seem to guarantee an emissions test pass but, as with any cat, it must be hot to have a decent chance of passing.

It would appear that with a roadside test they ask you to get the emissions problem sorted within a couple of weeks and retested (at an MOT station, I assume), but they could also issue a fixed penalty at the time of the 'pull'.

For the sake of a few bhp, I think it may be worth having a sports cat fitted to ensure hassle-free motoring - at least as far as emissions are concerned. I'll look into this further next year.

That's exactly why I'm asking this at all, I don't mind about the sacrifice of a couple ponies as long as I have peace of mind when mot day comes or even if a copper pulls me over

I'd rather take the chance of having that in then just a straight pipe so thanks that input and the link Steve:thumbs:

I'm guessing that's you implying a sports cat is useless Ben :p i wonder if it's make a good cuppa??

Anyways have you experienced having a sports cat in and it being useless??

Don't drive like a retard and you'll be fine ;)

The spot checks at the side of the road are nothing to do with driving like a retard!

It's the Police 'randomly' pulling vehicles into a lay-by and then the emissions are tested; they may also check the rest of the vehicle over - tyres, lights etc etc.

I've seen numerous roadside spot checks, but luckily I never been pulled over... yet.

Yeah the police do a lot of checks because in the borders there's a lot of young drivers in there corsas that have 2.0 but are declared as 1.2 so every so often they crack down stopping anyone in a Non standard car and do they checks

That time I mentioned about the Police BMW was actually one of they nights funnily enough
