Josh42
Whilst at 70 on the motorway, I noticed steam from the bonnet and the temperature shoot up rapidly. Upon opening the bonnet, there was massive pressure and steam coming from the expansion tank and the back right of the bulkhead(passenger side) Heaters were stone cold and carpet was dry. Any ideas? Alex
Yes - replace your radiator cap. It's not holding pressure and letting the coolant escape. Good time to do a full coolant flush too.
Guest BradD
check the crank pulley .If it's knackered,it will cause the engine to overheat.
ballsdeep
I Replaced the thermostat and rad cap when it happened to me! Job done
Josh42
Right, removed the thermostat, and topped up the coolant. Had a sniffer test done on the car and it came back clear. There's no milky oil/coolant mixture anywhere. Car still overheats and there's a hose that goes into the back of the block that's pissing out steam when overheating. The heaters will not get hot however, the carpet is dry. There also appears to be a leak at the back of the water pump somewhere. Anybody got any ideas what's causing my issue? I think it may be water pump?
buster
Water pump sounds likely not getting the water round the engine and there for overheating
Guest BradD
Tought you sorted this out by now mate.If you need a water pump to test it out ,i have one.pm me.
Steve Paine
Have you changed your fluids lately. Heater not working sounds like an air block ( best case scenario). I think there is a thread on here somewhere about getting it all through!
Josh42
I hadn't replaced the fluids recently actually. Unfortunately not Brad, ill send you a PM shortly mate. It still doesn't explain the leak at the hose at the rear f the block or the leak around the rear of the water pump...:/ Really racking my brains on this one! buster
is it the hose that go's into the head right at the back ? could just be the easiest place to let the steam out
Terminator
Possibly the blades on you water pump have broken making the pump as good as useless. Not sure but thought there were two types one with plastic blades that go brittle and another with metal blades. If you are getting steam out the back of the block hoses you have some serious hot spots, I would get it sorted before you over heat too far. Have you done what Alex suggested in post 2. Alex
Bypass the heater matrix and see if it still can't flow. (Join the hoses that go in and out of it).
Dnk
To check the matrix isn't blocked couldn't you just put a hose pipe onto the inlet of the matrix and see if it flows out of the outlet ?

Yep, true enough....you can even fire it the other way to try to unblock it.
Ian C
Yep, true enough....you can even fire it the other way to try to unblock it. I recall that's been known to finish off a gammy matrix, so be prepared for the replacement job if you try this

Shane
Almost certainly will not be the actual pump. It will be a £1 core plug that sits in the back of the rear housing. Such a common problem and I have never understood why only that core plug fails so often and if you pop any of the others out, they will most likely appear mint. I have a brand new one in my toolbox if you want it.
