hazza
on initial start up it will whine, and when i pull away it will get more high pitched then when it changes to second it goes... when i accelerate in N, its there but disapears when revs get to around 2k, it sounds like its coming from down the front maybe the aux pulley? have heard it maybe the crank pulley poss? if it turns out what you guys reply with its the crank pulley IL do the tippex test, but thought id get some advice from the guys in the know first just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? regards

Dnk
Take the aux belt off and then run the engine, if the noise stops you know its from one of the pulleys/parts being driven by aux belt or the aux belt itself If the belt is slipping it can cause a high pitched noise Edited November 23, 2012 by Dnk (see edit history)
jazz1
Mine sometime makes this noise still on cold up, I had it checked was all fine. But I still notice it's on cold start ups etc and goes same like say, no performance problems let me know if you find the cause please . Slicknick
I would tippex test the crank pulley regardless just for peace of mind! Could by your Idler pulley, do as Dnk says.
Abz
I had a similar though more belt squeak noise and that would happen on cold start only, and generally below 2k rpm too. This turned out to be the crank pulley, did it for about 6 months on and off until it fell off one day!! Though because it was so random and sounded like a belt I had trouble trying to diagnose it. Though I fixed it with WD-40 at one point. Might be worth doing the tippex test anyway.
jazz1
What's the best crank pulley set to buy? Titan? I might change it.
Dnk
Toyotas seems to do the job Mine didn't fail and was 16 years old and done 131,000 miles, i only swapped it because CW put a very low mileage one up for sale, it had only done a few hundred miles and was very cheap Edited November 23, 2012 by Dnk (see edit history)
jazz1
Sorry to sound dumb but is it just crank pulley or shall I change other things? Does it come in a set etc?
Dnk
Toyotas comes on its own, if you want the other pulleys you can order them individually or buy a custom set like Rob Mitchell sells Some of the billet blingy ones will come as a kit, you don't want one of these full stop, their fine for the other pulleys but not the crank pulley Edited November 23, 2012 by Dnk (see edit history)
jazz1
I think I might order the Titan crank puller, thanks.

Abz
I think I might order the Titan crank puller, thanks. I'd just get a stock crank pulley Jazz, I can not remember 100% but the pulley has some sort of dampener which some non stock items don't have. Not sure on the titan crank pulley but it doesn't look any different from a stock one!!

dan294
I've got a Titan crank pulley, is a 2 piece dampened job. Think they are just mroe heavy duty than the standard one. The one I have came off Johnny G's big twins car. Reason I bought is was just because it was cheaper than the Toyota one.
