adam1983
Car is single turbo hks fcon gold ecu. Was a tt before. Driving along when all of a sudden revs drop off and then cuts out. Electrics are fine as lights work. Restarted engine, it starts for a second but then goes really low revs and cuts out. Rac van been out and doesn't know the problem. Tow truck came out and was the wrong type for job with the car being lowered. Now waiting for the next one to come along. Last guy said issue could be crank sensor. Anything I could look for whilst waiting? Apologies for way this is written. I'm on my phone stuck in the middle of nowhere on a single track road Edited November 26, 2012 by Gaz6002 (see edit history)

absz
Can you hear the fuel pump ?
adam1983
Can hear the pump but it doesn't sound as audible as usual. Do you know what sort of fuel pressure I should be getting with just key turned before turning it over?
adam1983
Just turned it so the electrics come on and can hear the fuel pump. It's making a pulsing kind of noise rather than a continuous noise. Is this right? Also to note when I apply throttle before it cuts out when turning over it does nothing
Guest aspire
i had a crank sensor go down, intermittent fault, sometimes ok sometimes not,,,
adam1983
Not had anything intermittent leading up to this. Driving down the road and power disappears. Nothing dramatic like a bang or scraping so hopefully nothing major. Happened in the most unlit part of the country too I think. Had to knock on at someone's cottage to get the postcode
Fizzy T
Damn that sounds like a bugger,I used to live not far from where you are now too.Wish I could help but I'm new with Supra's so not too knowledgeable on them yet.
adam1983
Only good thing is that there is phone signal so could have been worse. Why couldn't it do this before I left the house?
absz
Fuel pressure if you have a gauge should be approx 36psi give or take with ignition on. normally with a crank sensor fail it will either not start at all or will back fire.
adam1983
Gauge is reading 10psi with just electrics on. Battery power is starting to fade a little now though with hazards been on for so long so not sure if that would affect it?
Swampy442
Sounds like a fuel pressure problem to me dude
adam1983
Is that likely to be fuel pump? Or is there anything else in between that could be the issue?
absz
Bridge the FP + B+ wires together in the diagnostic port located in the engine bay that should run the fuel pump bypassing the ecu trigger.
adam1983
Finally got home. Only just under 7 hours in total. Will have a better look tomorrow
jazz1
How you manage to get it on tow truck no hook? Looks nice car.
adam1983
They put some sort of chain around the front underneath near the wheels. Not too sure what part but it was solid. Then obviously winched onto the truck.
adam1983
It was in the back of a truck in the end. Had an extendable ramp which came out the back. Like the one on the old knight rider series
jazz1
So they towed it without tow hook and your bumper still being on? I might go with Rac lol.
adam1983
Quick update and questions. Had a better look at it a bit earlier before it got dark. Fuel pressure with key turned but engine off is sitting around 12psi. What sort of pressure should I be getting? Can hear fuel pump which is audible but the noise is constant and does not go off. Am I right in saying that the fuel pump should only come on for a few seconds and then go off? If that is the case what would be the cause of this? Would it be likely the fuel pump is dying and if so is there a way of checking that? Could it be fuel filter needs changing due to becoming clogged? Cheers
Gaz6002
I've changed your title so others can find this thread while searching in case they have the same issue.
adam1983
Thanks Gaz. Was originally started on my phone stuck in the middle of nowhere so was a quick title. Technically it does start but only for a second
Swampy442
Static fuel pressure should be around 40psi, so, its a pump problem, clogged filter, maybe the feed off the pump has become loose, fuel pressure reg failure/out of adjustment? adam1983
Thanks mate. Will see what the guy from the garage says tomorrow. He is coming down to locate the problem and hopefully will have it fixed before the weekend. Don't want to miss the hooters meet
