ksbkrew
Hello whats are the symptoms of defective coilpacks? loss of power? in fact, i'm in a single turbo setup, one of my friend 's got exactly the same than me, (same turbo, same injectors, same mapecu with the same map) and he 's running very harder than me. It burns in 2-3-4gear at 1.5bars, and mine get difficulties to burn in 2nd gear. A bpu car is just behind me (2-3cars behind). So i 'm searching what can be the cause of that. i have taken my compression and all seems ok, i'ive got 4cylinders at 10;5bars, one to 11 and one to 10 many thanks for helping me
adam1983
If its missing or hesitant or not making enough boost check the simple things first. Check spark plugs. Coil pack clips if they are really old. Only a few quid to get fixed. Coil packs are very expensive so only replace if that is the actual problem. ksbkrew
the sparks plugs are NGK BKR8EIX , having 2000miles on it coil clips are ok, i have changed one or two i have 6 coil packs in stock but i would prefer mount it in my new engine, so that's why i wanted to know if they can be the source of my problem before changing them
Swampy442
If you have new coil packs try them anyway, if it cures the problem then that's it, and if it doesn't, then you know you have other problems. Defective coil packs tend to cause misfires under load.
ksbkrew
i don't have any misfires at all, car doesn't hesitate
Shane
I have had missfire issues recently and although my coil packs looked brand new showing no cracks around the fixing points or the square bit at the top where they normally crack, when I removed the rubbers at the end of the bit that goes over the plug you can just see minute hairline fractures, almost invisible to the naked eye. I have put 2 layers of heatshrink over them and then the rubber back and it has for now at least cured my problem. Heatshrink has great insulation properties think its something like 25KV per 1mm of thickness. Pattern coilpacks are available from the states a lot cheaper than here btw, its the shipping thats a killer.
