Swampy442
As Gareth said, NEVER tow an auto. The auto fluid is the lubricant, the engine the pump. No engine, no pump. I have a torque convertor available if you need one.

skyline1
Sorry I forgot were all mechanics that know everything ... Hell we don't need this forum if we're all experts do we!
Benjy
My mum's not a mechanic and she knew her auto couldn't be towed. You answered your own quesion by mentioning the clutch pedal, which an auto hasn't got!
skyline1
Obviously there is no clutch but there ain't anything stopping you from knocking it from neutral to D when the car is rolling is there.
Benjy
No. No there's not.

Yes there is, you'd have to press the red button too as the gear selector will not move until it's dis-engaged.
skyline1
Well Harold thank you for your positive answer . Why can't everyone be like that instead of trying to be clever!

Hmm, positive anwers are not normally my strong point. I am normally a take the pi$$ kind of character but thanks for making me look less of an arse than I really am. It's appreciated..!! You have to be quick and accurate though, if you hit reverse you could potentially spin the engine backwards.

Oh, I would never consider it if it was actually possible (and I am not going to try). As far as am concerned you just "can't" bump start an auto. I was just commenting on the gear movement argument. Dnk
Didn't mythbusters try this and the result was you couldn't, even being towed at 50 mph didn't work.
