ellis
Evening - had the car in for MoT and new starter motor today and took in my 1st (nearest the engine) decat to be done after the MoT!! They didn't do it today because they thought it looked like a big job (harder than doing the 2nd one I know) but my question is about the O2 sensor. Is this removed or should it be placed in the decat pipe? I've got both pipes from Whifbitz but there's not O2 sensor hole in pipe 1. So what happens? Or is the O2 sensor in the section before the 1st decat? As I only look in the engine bay if there's a fire or screaming (and it's now dark out there) my knowledge is limited. Cheers - E
David P
I think you'll find it's a cat overheat sensor. Leave it plugged into the loom and tie it up out of the way, mine lives behind the radio.

This. To change the cat out and replace with the decat is maybe a half hour job. It's only the 3 nuts that attach to the down pipe, and the 2 that attach to the rest of the exhaust. The 3 at the top can be a pita to get to mind.
safcdixon
Big job? I did mine in about 30mins on my drive eith axle stands, so a garage should be able to do it alot quicker, as said the cat sensor is just tied up out the way, make sure they dont chop it off The three upper bolt can be had with a couple of universal joints. ellis
But surely its the O2 sensor? That's what's in there anyway - a Denso O2 sensor. I was under the impression that NAs have 2 O2 sensors and TTs just the one. If it's not at the top near the manifold end then where is it? safcdixon
Theres one on the tt its in the manifold just above where the 1st decat joins on, the one in the cat itself is a cat temp sensor
ellis
Ah, so it is above the decat then! Thought (hoped so)! Will lift bonnet this weekend then and see what's in there.
Josh
Ah, so it is above the decat then! Thought (hoped so)! Will lift bonnet this weekend then and see what's in there. Hopefully an engine attached to the exhaust system
ellis
Hopefully an engine attached to the exhaust system Could be anything in there mate! As long as its not an NA engine I'll be happy!!
Littler
Yeah as others have said, the sensor that is in the 1st cat itself is the cat temp sensor, which you can put in the new decat if it has the flange on or you can tie it out the way. The O2 sensor is above the cat and this can be seen from looking in from engine bay Be careful of the 3 bolts though as the can be seized and then snap the thread. Kaan W
Sorry to hijack but can you bolt both cats up to an aftermarket 3" down pipe?
Littler
Sorry to hijack but can you bolt both cats up to an aftermarket 3" down pipe? Your down pipe should be the '1st decat' technically but the 2nd cat could possibly
Kaan W
Your down pipe should be the '1st decat' technically but the 2nd cat could possibly Ah right I see, well the second cat is a 2.5" so doubt it will then.
safcdixon
Ah right I see, well the second cat is a 2.5" so doubt it will then. It should bolt up, i have a 3" 1st decat and 2.5" 2nd decat, then the 3" sideexit system after that and it bolts up fine no leaks etc
