Guest aspire
hi guys, just a quick question im looking an answer for. my car is having the new LSD diff being fitted, its a NA manual 5 speed, was auto but has been converted to manual, last year before conversion was done noticed what i can only describe as a rear wheel bearing rumble/humm. now i have supplied 2 new rear bearings for the garage doing the diff work, but they can hear the noise but have said no play in wheels... could it be the diff? which is good as i am replacing it, or could it be anything else??? very intrusive noise, but im at a loss now, any help please guys... Dnk
It can't really be many things back there and if its not a wheel bearing then its either the diff or a cv joint, more likely the diff.
Guest aspire
Cheers dunk. thats what i was hoping for. could a bearing fail with out any movement on the wheel...
Dnk
They shouldn't really, what do they rotate like, do they feel smooth ? Your garage could always put a stethoscope on the diff and hubs
Guest aspire
They run smooth. i will speak to garage. i changed the auto diff fluid last year. there was no debris or metal when it was drained
Iky
Cheers dunk. thats what i was hoping for. could a bearing fail with out any movement on the wheel... Not insulting your garage but are you sure they checked it with the handbrake off? Could also be loose hubnut. They need torqueing to like 300nm which is a hell of a lot. Best way to check would be handbrake off and brake caliper pads out imo.
Guest aspire
just an update, 100% sure not the rear wheel bearings, they are changing diff and putting on another set of drive shafts, should know more tomorrow
sideexitsupra
When one of my rear bearings went there was no movement, just a grumble. Was checked out by Paul Whiffin and a replacement hub solved the problem. So it was the bearing.
