ellis
Quick question - Im looking to do a 1st decat before going full BPU (when funds allow) and was wondering if I need an RR. I know I do for full BPU but not sure about 1st decat. Cheers. Edited October 28, 2012 by ellis (see edit history)
Littler
No as the 2nd cat will be the restrictor ring of sorts
DuaneT.Turbo
I've got rid of my second cat and kept first as it was easier and fine without restrictor ring

ellis
Right, lifting this back up as I've hit fuel cut twice now with just the first decat. So I'm asking again really - should I throw a 1.2 bar restrictor ring in there?
SPG
this time of year with the cold temps will be causing the boost to spike at points, i would fit one buddy

Littler
Aye - think I will! It's not fun hitting fuel cut is it! You could fit the FCD to remove the wall you hit?
ellis
If I start fitting more bits I may as well go full BPU (although I do have the 2nd decat in the garage!). Want the car to pass the MoT next year though. Where can I get an RR? I thought Whifbitz sold them but there's nowt on the site, just a gasket. - - - Updated - - - It's not fun hitting fuel cut is it! I remember hitting it in the old decatted UK spec - I thought I'd killed it!! Not a pleasant experience at all.

ellis
Oh!! What's the internal diameter of the hole for the 1.2 bar ring? Is it 52mm or larger?

Calzo21
Bump What was the sound like with just the 1st cat out ?? I'm not sure if I should go full decat, but I read if you wanna remove just one its the 1st one am I right ?? Trying to find a video with the sound of full decat and one with 1st decat
ellis
It sounds sooo much better. I'm still at the cat 1 removal stage. But the car was hitting fuel cut even at this level so last week I had an RR fitted. Just had a blast to Glossop and back and it's now superb - little less boost but no fuel cut, great noise and the ability to cover large amounts of miles in not much time. I don't think I'll be going full decat so may have a few goodies for sale shortly! And, yes, 1st cat is the one to go for, it's the most restrictive. I think I'm blessed with a very strong engine and 2 good turbos and want to keep it that way, hence the RR.

In place of the 1st cat ? That with 1 bar RR? Think il do that il see if Paul can set me up with a kit excluding the 2nd decat pipe
ellis
RR went in at the end of decat 1 not in place of. It's either a 1 bar, 1.1 bar or 1.2 bar, who knows! It's stopped the fuel cut so it's definitely not overboosting.
