RB-GTE
Ok so I got my 97 TT 6spd facelift a few months back. It had problems getting started on cold start, it would keep dying but after 5-6 attempts it would stay on. So I first checked my Idle Control Valve, it was clean inside... but I cleaned it anyways. This didn't solve the issue, so I got my spark plugs changed to IK22's today. It should most likely solve my starting issues. But anways, the idle for me still seems quite LOW. I thought it would improve with the plug change. My last Supra idled like BUTTER! it sat right at around 900rpm and never went below. It was a 95 TT 6-speed. Here is a picture of how my Supra idles on average. Is there anything else I can look into? The low idle I have now makes the car sound quite, it shakes quite a bit... its quite annoying. http://img547.imageshack.us/img547/1767/img20121025151854.jpg

V8KILR
Thats exactly the rpm that they are supposed to idle at. If you want it higher, then you can use the screw at the throttle body to turn it up.

Havard
Thats exactly the rpm that they are supposed to idle at. If you want it higher, then you can use the screw at the throttle body to turn it up. Mine idles at about 650 so it is a tad low. VVTi's are meant to be in that area. If you mess about with the screw on the throttle body you could end up in a world of pain as it sends the car mental on full boost if you get it wrong. I imagine it's your engine and gearbox mounts that are fubar if you are getting vibration through the car. This is the problem I had a couple of years ago and new mounts fixed everything. V8KILR
Have another look at the picture my friend, way too low! Nope, 650rpm which your rpm gauge shows is exactly correct. See my mkiv specs page and find the idle speed info about 1/3 of the way down. http://mkiv.supras.org.nz/specs.htm Edited October 26, 2012 by V8KILR (see edit history)
tomgeer
My money would be on the O2 sensor. Mine was the same until I replaced the sensor on the down pipe.
spikedjack
Idle looks about right there for a vvti bud
Havard
Idle looks about right there for a vvti bud Maybe my first post was a bit misleading. At 650 (which the picture shows) it's spot on. Engine mounts, trust me..!! Is the cold starting problem still there?
Guigsy
Yep the engine mounts is quite a common vvti issue I believe.

dan294
Looks pretty much bang on 650 to me
Havard
Looks pretty much bang on 650 to me I have looked at twice now and it is on 650. It is in the middle of 1000 and 0 but that isn't 500 on the dial.
BK1
Wrong. Ignore the zero, those divisions are 200 rpm each, reading is more like
SPG
Wrong. Ignore the zero, those divisions are 200 rpm each, reading is more like 300 Nope you are wrong buddy, they are 100 incriments and that reads 650ish
hackin_n_bashin
Wrong. Ignore the zero, those divisions are 200 rpm each, reading is more like 300 Wrong, the first division is 500rpm, then incremented in 100rpm. Hence 650rpm
dan294
+1. Doubt it'd tick over at 300rpm anyway
TuneR
Its around 650 ish, same as my vvti TTT....i dont see a problem but was quiet surprised when i first got it at how low it idled too!
dan294
Wrong. Ignore the zero, those divisions are 200 rpm each, reading is more like 300 Don't think so dude. There would only be 4 points between 1000 and 2000 rpm and so on if that was the case.
Style
The rest of the speedo goes up in 100's so why change it to 200's for the 0-1000? Definitely 650, as a VVTi you can plug it into an OBD to verify.
Havard
Wrong. Ignore the zero, those divisions are 200 rpm each, reading is more like 300 *Bows*: I read gauges for a living, time to go back to college me thinks..!!
spikedjack
0 First mark is 500 Every mark after that increases by 100 until 1kRPM
SupraD06
Wrong. Ignore the zero, those divisions are 200 rpm each, reading is more like 300 If that was the case, then why are there FIVE marks before the 1000 rpm? If your saying that after zero they go up in 200 increments, then your up to 1000rpm before you get to the big '1' Also to say that you think yours is around 300 rpm means your treating the '0' AND the next longer mark as zero then counting 200's after that.
