Dragonball 2013 (UPDATED 5-1-2013) - 17th, 18th and 19th May - The Road to Rouen

Sound cheers for that. I've no sat nav yet but if it comes to it ill follow the pack.

Tony I'd recommend a Sat Nav though if you can, I managed to get TomTom Europe on my phone which I used on the last 2 Dragonball's.

Though to be honest the routes were so well laid out by Branners and Ellis that was good enough if you got lost.

I spent a few times picking up stragglers & having a nav does give you some confidence if you lose the crew. Sticking together is the main thing, I guess me and Darren will do what we can blocking off the roads but we need to make sure that when we do block it off people GO GO GO!!

:D

The TomTom XL or XXL units are worth looking at if you are buying a satnav. You need to make sure they can take Garmin or TomTOm itinarary files, not all new TomTom units can.

We put in waypoints in the route plans to make sure people go the same route, so starting from Calais and going to Rouen it would take you down the motorways, we force the route way off the motorways and on to normal roads. Ellis's route plans are great too, but if you have a satnav you stand a little more chance of finding the rest of the crowd.

This is the one most of us had last year and it worked perfectly and for under £100, it's very reassuring to have, no more panicing when you can't see anyone anymore

It happened to me a couple of years ago, when I didn't relise everyone had pulled over, it's not a nice feeling, driving along with absolutely no idea were you are, worth the £100 all day long in my opinion

I tend not to release the route until the last minute as I keep tweaking it if I find problems. As DodgyRog says, I go through it on streetview to make sure there are no nasty surprises waiting for us, and to try and avoid the toll booths and major junctions where we can get split up.

The 2012 route was amazing, until we found a road completely closed off for some local event involving a circus. I just didnt see that one coming!!

Currently working on the route down from Calais to Rouen, trying to avoid the toll roads and major towns, while building in a lunch stop around 1pm somewhere interesting and then finding the best route in to south Rouen.

Saturday route is completely done, outline Sunday route is done but needs to be checked to make sure it goes where I want it to.

So thats why the route isnt published early as it means people end up with a route that was changed at some point and they didnt realise.

Cheers branners.

Personally I found that part of the drive the best bit of the whole weekend John, the twistys through the countryside were great until I thought it had ended.....then we had to turn round and go right back through it again due to the Circus. I was chuffed :)

I'm irritated that I missed DB12 and won't be happening again!! :D

Are we planning on staying in France for the weekend in next year's dragonball or are we planning on going through other countries like this year's John?

Is it French law to have a spare bulb kit, reflective vest for each occupant and breathilizer kit kept in the car while in their country? Just incase the po po stop people.

Yes, Halfrauds do an all in one kit, they quite often do a deal on them, think I got mine for £29

Just had a look at this and it's not got the breathalizers in it, which I thought were legally needed?

Also, does anyone know if a standard spare bulb kit is still acceptable if you are running HID's? I know you can still fit them as it's all plug and play

So room is booked and I didn't save any money in the sale this year. I paid the same as the rest of you lot :D

I said maybe to you :D I was thinking about it yesterday after you'd gone home and thought I've booked a hotel the last 2 Dragonballs, it's not expensive so sod it!! :D

Just makes it a little bit easier, because it's a 2 hour drive to the hotel which I really can't be bothered to do early in the morning. As it means leaving my house just before 5am and rushing. By going the day before I can turn up at anytime in the afternoon/evening, have some dinner, catch up with other Dragonballers, then have longer in bed before getting out for just gone 7am :)

£24 is worth it, so get a room mate and save yourself the early morning trip.... You know it makes sense ;)
