My Custom Dash2 Build Using Real Carbon - Pic Heavy

Hay all. With my Dash2 finial working 100% I thought I'd post up how I made the surround. I still need to make a nice alloy cage to hold the Dash2 rather than it being duct taped in from behind but It will look no different to how it looks now.

The process took a week or 2 and a LOT of effort. But was worth it in the long run.

1st up was to take off the original clock surround and grind off the lips.

Next up was to fibreglass over the top

Once the resin was hardened time to get my grinding skills out again ;) to cut off all the outer fibreglass

As the fibreglass sinks I need to use filler to fill up what remained of the holes

Smooth it off and time for some more filler

After plenty of elbow grease and hard work the front panel is now even and dead smooth! I actually dropped off to sleep while sanding this down with the panel in one hand and the sanding block in the other as it exhausted me so much. lol

After I marked out the size of a Dash2 on the panel my mate had to cut it out for me as I have a hand as steady as jelly

And after I had sanded the edges nice and smooth for a snug fit :) (see its taking shape now ;))

Noe for the tricky part, applying the carbon. Using real carbon off a roll we then used the same resin as the fibreglass over the top and epoxy underneath to stick the carbon making sure the weaving remained straight.

Then I cut the hole in the middle and sanding to whole thing smooth to start applying the lacquer

After many nights of sanding back and lacquering I finally got the finish I worked so hard for to get :)

And with the actual Dash2 in to check that it all fitted nicely. Some small sanding needed doing.

That looks awesome mate good job, plus you have given me the idea to mount my toucan display where you have :D

 how dare you! lol. Go for it. Its the best best I could come up with..

Carbon Looks great dude, but that steering wheel is horrid

Thanks but each to there own I guess. A lot of people like it. Some may not.. I don't think it does it much justice with the strange angle of the shot..

P.s, did you do your blue LED conversion yourself?

Originally heckler did them, but then I changed a few (put some red ones in) and replaced some dead l.e.d's.

Good work, so whats your next plan of action? I know you just can't stop adding new mods to the supra:eyebrows:

lol I know, I'm terrible. It would be telling if I were to tell you what was next ;)

But as you asked so nicely. Next up I will be testing uprated gearbox mounts for a company, fitting uprated bush's and engine mounts :D

And i will make a nice picture thread for all you picture whores
