a98pmalcolm
Hay all. With my Dash2 finial working 100% I thought I'd post up how I made the surround. I still need to make a nice alloy cage to hold the Dash2 rather than it being duct taped in from behind but It will look no different to how it looks now. The process took a week or 2 and a LOT of effort. But was worth it in the long run. 1st up was to take off the original clock surround and grind off the lips. http://imageshack.us/a/img198/5794/20120815194836.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img716/909/20120815194841.jpg Next up was to fibreglass over the top http://imageshack.us/a/img197/5281/20120815211928.jpg Once the resin was hardened time to get my grinding skills out again to cut off all the outer fibreglass http://imageshack.us/a/img194/2397/20120816194616.jpg http://imageshack.us/a/img196/4250/20120816194624.jpg As the fibreglass sinks I need to use filler to fill up what remained of the holes http://imageshack.us/a/img26/5048/20120816200623.jpg Smooth it off and time for some more filler http://imageshack.us/a/img842/5687/20120816203138.jpg After plenty of elbow grease and hard work the front panel is now even and dead smooth! I actually dropped off to sleep while sanding this down with the panel in one hand and the sanding block in the other as it exhausted me so much. lol http://imageshack.us/a/img585/6082/20120817205741.jpg After I marked out the size of a Dash2 on the panel my mate had to cut it out for me as I have a hand as steady as jelly http://imageshack.us/a/img11/3494/20120818204150.jpg And after I had sanded the edges nice and smooth for a snug fit (see its taking shape now ) http://imageshack.us/a/img402/1861/20120820094714.jpg Noe for the tricky part, applying the carbon. Using real carbon off a roll we then used the same resin as the fibreglass over the top and epoxy underneath to stick the carbon making sure the weaving remained straight. http://imageshack.us/a/img18/7780/20120820192727.jpg Then I cut the hole in the middle and sanding to whole thing smooth to start applying the lacquer http://imageshack.us/a/img687/7225/20120905184658.jpg After many nights of sanding back and lacquering I finally got the finish I worked so hard for to get http://imageshack.us/a/img11/2761/20120906223016.jpg And with the actual Dash2 in to check that it all fitted nicely. Some small sanding needed doing. http://imageshack.us/a/img856/2148/20120906224814.jpg Edited October 23, 2012 by a98pmalcolm (see edit history)

Hammer
Good work fella. You are building a VERY nice supra there and fair play for doing so much of the work yourself. Careful with the carbon though, it becomes infectious .

Fantastic work! - - - Updated - - - P.s, did you do your blue LED conversion yourself? Originally heckler did them, but then I changed a few (put some red ones in) and replaced some dead l.e.d's. Good work, so whats your next plan of action? I know you just can't stop adding new mods to the supra:eyebrows: lol I know, I'm terrible. It would be telling if I were to tell you what was next But as you asked so nicely. Next up I will be testing uprated gearbox mounts for a company, fitting uprated bush's and engine mounts And i will make a nice picture thread for all you picture whores
