Total stunning build, makes me think about doing this myself when get the space for engine and hoist

I'm quite enjoying it to be fair, learnt a lot along the way and just taking my time. Few learning curves but I'm sure it will come good in the end :)

Front end of the engine is looking a little more 'engine like' that's for sure! :D

New front main seal (crank seal), timing gear refitted, new cam belt idler fitted, new Gates cam belt fitted, tensioner checked and refitted (tension set in vice before refitting), no.1 and no.2 engine covers fitted and finally the auxiliary belt tensioner fitted. I checked the timing approximately a good few times and it's spot on. Will worry about fitting the distributor and timing that up over the weekend.

Very nice build rich, I'm tempted to go the whole hog this winter and make mine look a little smarter

Do it mate! Only regret is not having the car on the road for summer, although doing the build over winter would of been a sack ache in the cold weather. Horses for courses I suppose.

Had some fun over the weekend mounting a few more components.

First off fitted and torqued my new NGK BKR7E plugs after gapping them to 0.9mm (should be suitable for upto 1 bar):

After that I fitted the distributor along with new o-ring oil seal, as new rotor arm, new Toyota 4 Runner distributor cap, cleaned up all the plug leads and then fitted the plug leads including an extra no.2 lead in place of the no.1 lead to give a little more length with the 4 Runner cap.

Next up was sorting out a stripped exhaust stud, the thread had been pulled out the head! Fixed this with a V-Coil kit as recommended by a few people. I cleaned up all the exhaust studs and refitted them ready for the manifold to go on.

Here's the V-Coil kit and a picture of me re-tapping the head:

Following this I modified the manifold a little with a split down the mounting flange to allow for it expanding/contracting. I have also opted not to heat wrap the manifold but just stick with a heat wrapped downpipe and turbo blanket, maybe at a later date I will try and fabricate a heat shield for the manifold but for now this should suffice:

Then came mounting the manifold/turbo/wastegate/wastegate pipe. It finally is a turbo! The pictures aren't great but it's on and I'm excited :D:

Also my 4" K&N filter arrived courtesy of Lee @ SRD. Thanks again Lee, excellent service and hasty postage!

While it's off, I highly recommend getting a 90° elbow welded on the turbo compressor housing. Silicone joiners there are a right PITA to work on, and any joiner will begin to perish due to the heater. I've a premium elbow and it's thickerer than anything else I could buy, it's still effected by the heat :(

Sounds a daft question, but where can I buy an elbow from? Having it welded is no problem as I've got a few other bits of welding I want doing at the same time :) Going to try and adapt my manifold to suit a V Band wastegate unless I can find a good 4 bolt wastegate for sale.

Turbos went in for a refurb, they arrive tomorrow. I have a load of gaskets on order with toyota, hopefully this weekend I can fit it all :-)

Good luck mate, I know the feeling with ordering a million and one gaskets/odd bolts etc. from Toyota. They must be fed up of me now! I wanted new bolts for the distributor cap and they were going to have to order them from Japan and take two weeks to get here, luckily I nabbed some of a member here.

Oil pan refitted with Toyota FIPG along with new o-ring and gasket for oil strainer. Oil strainer, modified oil return flange etc. also fitted, just the sump to fit now on the bottom end.

Queue phone pictures :innocent::

I have also today received a braided fuel dampener hose made up by Hodge (many thanks!) and ordered another set of injectors. I have gone for Siemens Deka 650CC, high impedance, top feed along with pigtail adapters so will clip straight in to the stock loom touch wood! Had to ordered them from New Jersey in the U.S! Shall be here in the next fortnight fingers crossed. I'll know as I'll get raped with import charges I imagine!
