Supra Kong
Been meaning to ask this for a while, but whether i have traction control on or off seems to make naff all difference! Just been out for a spin, and managed the longest wheelspin ever with TC on... Any ideas? Should this actually work or is it just a gimmick? ellis
Shouldn't do that - it usually tries to kill you by going into snow mode as 10 tonne lorries bear down on you. Is yours unplugged?
tony tt
I take it your tc isnt working then. When my stock tc comes on theres a noticable cut in power. snow mode comes up on the dash and stays there for a bit.
Josh42
Check the TC fuse as many people pull it to delimit the car...
mwilkinson
As Ellis says it uses Chinese whispers to send the signal through the wiring and therefore often compounds the loss of traction. Inevitably this often happens at junctions where it tries to kill you as you pull out. If this is not happening it's broke. Check fuses first. tony tt
I hardy use it soon as i turn the car on the tc gets turned off.
Supra Kong
Interesting.... i remember a while back it bogged the car down... but before that it happily spun up too! On the track the same, screaming tyres with TC on! Is it actually worth fixing? Sounds horried by what you guys say!! Better off getting a RLTC i guess? tony tt
Same here - one WTF moment is enough! Yeah thats very true especially when you end up in limbo pulling out on a roundbout praying for power once it comes on.
benkei
If you turn it off you get the bright orange light on the dash which is really distracting. I'm sure you get warning lights if you take the fuse out as it's letting you know it's driver-killing mode is disabled?

Supra Kong
If i press the button, the orange light still comes on and strangely enough it goes off when i press it again. So if my fuse is blown, then there will be no warning lights as i havent got any!!
mellonman
the traction control in the supra is well poor, i bit you will find that its actually working , i recon i could do a fully 360 dougnut before the traction control knew to cut the power, if its working the green slip control light will flicker as you spin up

It's an area that's moving in huge strides. When Ferrari brough the 430 out, it's TC strategy was universally acclaimed. The 458 is 30% better in corner exits alone. God knows what the next one will be! Same with the Supra. Stock is terrible. RLTC is much better, Syvecs is better again - it's all progress. Abz
On my previous Supra when I lost some traction a little green light use to pulse on the dash to let you know, fine on a dry day but if you have it on during wet weather then it is pretty much dangerous!! I pulled out a roundabout & because of the slip it cut the power! 20 years ago it was amazing technology but like Johnny says nowadays you have the likes of RLTC & Syvecs. Josh
Mine's been disabled, and I don't get any warning lights. After all the seemingly close misses, I'd always turn it off when driving, anyway.
Gaz6002
It controls your traction. HTH.
st3ven1
It may be 20 year old technology, and absolutely no doubt that there are far better traction control systems out there. But I bet it's saved plenty of people on here from stuffing their pride and joy, whether they like to admit it or not.
Lbooth
UK specs run a different system and don't suffer with the issue of being stuck in snow mode trying to pull out of junctions. No annoying warning triangle when it's off either. Wonder how many of the crashed threads could be avoided by just leaving it on when it gets to this time of year! Mine's been disabled, and I don't get any warning lights. After all the seemingly close misses, I'd always turn it off when driving, anyway. Radio
I'm with the last 2 comments. When I picked up my first UK TT from the south coast in 1999 I had never driven a Supra before. When I pulled on to the motorway I thought I would give it a push to see what it felt like and the bloody thing really wanted to go sideways. Fortunately having an little experience in the past from rallying, I was ok but if that would have been someone totally inexperienced to fast cars it could have easily been.... exit another Supra to the big car park in the sky (Kerons mighty palace) The traction control was off!... I always leave it on even though it may be inferior to the new types, it does work. And one other thing.........anyone that stops giving the Supra TT the proper respect can easily get caught out. spikedjack
It's pretty awful at best. If I've gotta pull out somewhere quick I switch it off, equally if I'm off for a spirited drive. Its only worth it's while in the wet B road commute when little attention is being paid
Darragh
I only turn it on when travelling down a motorway so I don't have to look at the orange light but for everyday driving on normal roads its always switched off, I had a junction and lorry incident at the start off my ownership and vowed never again haha

So do you think fitting a Syvecs is worth it to a BPU car? Wouldnt mind decent traction control, launch control etc... It's mainly for track use! shaz2010
I tested my traction control when I bought my uk TT, when TC was on when pulling away in the wet the rear tries to slide out so I applied more rev's to see if would just 180 on me! It done its job and pulled the car straight and just kept pulling. Done it a few times (private road) and mine works good! When it's off it just wheel spins daft (when wet) Edited October 19, 2012 by shaz2010 (see edit history)
Samurai 20V
My J Spec does the same, even with the T/C on, it spins its life away... The green light flashes but the wheels still spin... Don't think it its working properly!
