Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) intermittent harsh gear changes and idle problems

Hi folks,

Having issues with the 1st turbo not making much boost or giving its usual little kick. Can still hear the turbo spooling, but the engine note sounds louder like the car is in TTC mode, lost some low down torque. It almost feels like its bogging down under boost on the 1st turbo, registers about 0.55 bar on the guage, until changeover then its back to normal and will rocket to 1.2 bar and hold it nice and strong.

have read Ian's post: http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?35926-The-sequential-system

any suggestions? split hose?

Currently have some new vac hoses on order, but have a feeling its something more serious?

Any help would be great.

Si.

Had a quick look last night and couldnt see any split hoses or problems that were obvious. I have however ordered a load of silicone vac hose to replace everything. Got to be a split somewhere.

I used a lot of the silicone type hose in the past and it worked just fine everywhere except the EGCV. There isn't a bead on the end of the actuator's barb and the hose blows off easily, be aware :)

Sounds like you've venting boost off the first turbo. If it clears up when #2 comes online it could be the reed valve in the ICV failing or the flap sticking open, bleeding boost back through #2 and out to atmo/back into #1.

Do you have a boost controller fitted? Have you checked the VSV's are all working okay?

Yes, but this has had all the hoses check, and tightened, and the controller has been reset and setup again twice so isnt a problem. have also tried removing it and problem is still there on stock boost.

Hi Ian, by ICV do you mean the Intake Air Control Valve (IACV) ?

Have you tried the pressure tank? But mind you if the 1st turbo is spinning it means there's pressure in the tank. Its so annoying because there's a few things it could be.

And for once My dad has experianced this so I might know a thing or two :p

But we was unlucky because we later found out that the turbos had given up the ghost :(

Im going to have a serious poke around at the weekend, i have a few parts to fit anyway. Convinced now its a vac issue somewhere as it pulls seriously hard after testing last night and hits full boost everytime. going to replace ALL vac lines and see where we go from there.

Right, replaced all the vacuum hoses I could see. Car is alot better but still not 100%.

Some of the original hoses were rock solid and the installation of the hoses to the boost solinoid by previous owner was interesting.

One of the electronic valves was missing a hose, im not sure if this should be blanked off or left open? This is the one at the front of the engine under water elbow/above alternator uploadfromtaptalk1350849252884.jpg

Aside from the ones changed are there any other hoses that are worth looking at?

Thanks.

Gave the car a proper test on the way to work this morning, its certainly more sharp on the throttle.

I have noticed now that the idle sits slightly higher, when waiting at lights/junction the car would idle at 900rpm in D. Now it sits at 1100, nothing has been touched to do with throttle cable etc. Could this indicate a leak somewhere?

Only Vac lines that have not been replaced are circled in yellow in this picture:

Im going to check that my BOV is also plumbed in correctly, as looking at the picture above compared to mine, The SSQV is connected differently.

Any suggestions would be great.
