Pixelfill
Quick question to all you knowledgeable technical types I came to start up the Supra this morning and there was a bit of a squeal, kind of like a slipping fan belt, but not quite the same. Anywsy with all the rain we've been having, I thought it might be a bit of damp, so drove the car back to the hotel we are staying at ( left it at a wedding reception over night) over the course of the journey the noise went away, but I popped the bonnet when I got back anyway looking in, the aux belt was moving around a little on the tensioner, but the tensioner looked rock solid. further down in the engine bay below the tensioner it looks as though the crank pulley (?) is slightly out of alignment, my question is is this terminal, or rather can I drive it back home, or should I recover 2nd question what am I looking at as a repair job? apologies if this is answered elsewhere on the forum, but I have very limited web access here to search with. Ian C
New crank pulley, probably from Whifbitz, as a fix. Driving home you risk the metal pulley flying off and sawing through stuff in the engine bay. Up to you if you want to risk this
listy
Definitely sounds as though the pulley is dead. However, seeing the pulley wobble slightly is normal, as it's a dampened pulley. Best way test is with tipex. Put a blob over the join on the pulley, and give it a little rev. If the tipex cracks the pulley is dead. Samurai 20V
Same as mine at the moment.. Ordered the pulley, changing the oil pump as well. Based on the advice from here, will be getting the car towed to the mechanic..
Pixelfill
so the general consensus is that I'm riding with RAC home tomorrow then better safe than sorry though I guess. thanks for the input guys - especially Ian - in combination with the crank pulley Mike
