Airbag warning light after replacing OEM steering wheel

Recommended Posts

So I removed the incredilby ugly Camry style OEM steering wheel, and replaced with a nice MOMO.

What I did was unplug the airbag and removed it, then removed the steering wheel.

For the MOMO after hooking up the HORN, the yellow wire/harness for the AIRBAG I just tucked behind the steering wheel hub on the MOMO... since this MOMO has no airbag.

This airbag warning light is on the whole time now.

I'm wondering what is the best way to get rid of it.

Yes I definetley disconnected the battery

I actually quickly searched up the online instructions since I never changed the Supra steering wheel before.

Also I checked out the link on mkiv.com have no idea what I just read,

may have to go check for myself to see what the whole AB TC thing is all about.

Also just realised you haven't put a new steering wheel on with an airbag, so the connector isn't plugged in, maybe the way you can sort it is by removing the bulb from just behind?

That was a though but when I turn the ignition key ON I'd prefer that all lights are operational.

Then when the car is started it would shut off.

The new steering wheel has no air bag. It's a 3 spoke MOMO race design.

A resistor sounds like a good idea. So it tricks it into thinking there is an airbag plugged in :)

Any idea where I could get one for the MKIV ? I searched and couldn't come up with anything.

cheers

Thats exactly what it does. The only person on here i can think of is hecklor i think is his user name, he does the LED conversion. I'm guessing your in UK? I've had to use them before to get cars threw the NCT test if the clock spring was faulty & bringing on the airbag light. If you have no luck let me know & i will try the lad where i get them & see if he can help.

If you only had a driver's airbag, you should just remove the bulb as there are no other airbags. If there's no airbags in the car, there's no need for the dash light for the MOT. I'm sure it's going to cause more concern to an observant individual that you have a dash light operating 'normally' for a piece of equipment that isn't there!

If you have a passenger airbag you'll need to sort it or the airbag system will not work - ie the passenger airbag won't fire if there's an accident.

You should also inform your insurance company as they may see it that you have removed safety equipment.

Personally I would have updated with a stock toyota/lexus three spoke airbag wheel
