Installing LED Bulbs

I have recently purchased some clear rear lights, now I need to get some red bulbs for them. I can get silvertec red stop/brake lights and although this would be the easy option i have seen some and its a very dull red. Although these would do, i dont want that so I'm looking at getting LED bulbs. As the supra has a warning for rear bulbs out I need Canbus bulbs but this would cost me £40, which is a lot for 4 bulbs.

So my question is if i bought the cheaper ones and placed some resistors in what do i need and how do I put them in the circuit ?

I have found some 10ohm 5w resistors and believe i would have to put these in series with the bulb ?

Hi Matt,

Good timing for you, if you want to know about the expensive ones... I've just ordered the CREE £40 Red ones...should be here in a couple of days. I can answer if they are worth it once installed...as like you I don't want dull sh177y bulbs! However I've still got Red Lenses...

Fingers crossed. Will take a picture of the stock versus LED look. If they are not up to the job they are going back!

I've got tail/brake, fog red in the clear RHS reverse holder and reverse white coming. All are CREE models.

But can't answer your actual question :)

I have a LED fog got it from Hong Kong a while ago and I like the look of it in the clear lens, hence why i want LED but i am particular and want the bulbs with LED's all over. The reason for this is the bulb loads in from the bottom so didnt want front facing ones, just thought might give a more better light

But if you could let me know your opinion on yours then that would be great. although not sure i want to spend £40 but then its easy PnP option instead of faffing around with resistors

I have LED rear lights on my car and it brings up the rear light out sign, main warning triangle and the handbrake light. this would be usefull to know also but ive been told you can just remove the rear light ecu in the boot and no lights will show when using leds.

This is different I think, as its not led lights, just the led bulbs. Shouldn't get any warning lights I don't think.

As for the 3rd brake light, is the plug in properly? It's under the plastic trim on the boot lid.

It's not an ECU , it's a bulb failure module. Just a couple of bits in a box that checks resistance and stuff to work out if a rear light bulb has failed. It lives on the left in the luggage compartment, apparently, but isn't on any of the pics.

Kaan, if it still works on yours, I would leave it alone :D

:p It needs removing or I can't install my led rears.
