MAD-MAX
Hi guys, hope you can help or atleast point me in the right direction. My Supra TT has not been driven this last year or so much and when started on idle its a little lumpy between 500-900rpm. When driving gently you can feel it hesitating a little also. Once it boosts up the rev range its fine. After a run it idles ok for a little while then its back to slightly rough ide. Any ideas? New Spark plugs this week (NGK IK20 irridium after reading on here?) are going to get fitted but is there anything else i can check before buying other items. Any good reputable mechanics in or around West yorkshire that i can show it to...? Thanks
peter richards
clips on the top of the coil packs , get them anyway as probably they will have gone brittle, paul sells them at wiffbits . mine literally fell apart when i tried to take them off , so try that first
Guest Budz86
Good call from Peter. Also, when was the last time you had an oil and filter change? Probably need doing at least once a year on these cars, depending on mileage. If you are still seeing problems you might need to look at new coilpacks or possibly an ignitor pack, but don't buy from Toyota as coilpacks are around £650! You can get supersparks from Paul W for around half of that.
Geo
plugs, coil pack connectors, or coil packs themselves. When i changed my plugs the connectors basically fell to bits
Swampy442
I had the same thing, was the spark plugs.
MAD-MAX
Thanks for the replies guys. Will try plugs first and see how that goes, if no joy then go down the coil pack/connector path. Thanks
Geo
Be very very careful taking the coil pack clips off, they go very brittle, and will fall to bits, TAKE YOUR TIME
adam1983
Coil pack clips cost so little it's worth changing them anyway if brittle or very old. Not that hard to change them either if they are brittle as they will literally fall apart. Be worth changing them first if plugs have only recently been done. There is a guide on here for the clips too. Would link it but I'm on my phone. Very good guide which I used to do mine
peter richards
just make sure when replacing the clips that the two wires are the correct way around , my problem was with number 5 si came down and changed the injector for me as id done everything else , that's plugs , coil packs and clips . still misfiring after the injector went in in 5 . so just out of curiosity and a bit of desperation we checked the wires and bingo number 5 were the wrong way round , si swapped them no misfire . now this may sound a bit silly , but if i had disassembled the clips then i don't think this would of happened but they literally fell apart , and on 5 for some reason they must have flipped over or something so just be careful when replacing the clips make a note which way the wires are Edited September 24, 2012 by peter richards (see edit history)
MAD-MAX
Thanks for all the tips guys - Very much appreciated. Will attempt it in a day or so. As suggested may just buy the connectors anyway so they can be changed as peace of mind. Cheers
MAD-MAX
Just a quick question. Are the coil connectors on a Non VVTi same as a VVTi model.. Cheers

MAD-MAX
Well finally got round to changing the plugs on my TT and the old ones looked as if they had been there several years too long...! Very old / dirty and black..! Anyway new Denso plugs in there now and its driving perfect with no hesitation.................... However one thing I did notice is it now idles a little lower than what i deem normal. Idles around 400 and fluctuates to 600rpm when warm... I got a feeling its the Idle control after reading a few threads on here so will tackle that issue next. Thanks for all the advice.
