Homer
The suspension has been knocking a fair bit recently so took the wheel off today to see if anything obvious is wrong. Part of the damper seems to have detached itself from the top (see pic), can anyone tell me if this means i'll need a new damper?
carl0s
That's the "bump stop" dude. Mine is/was like that too. The fronts on mine stay at the top, but on the rears they just slide down. I can't see how it could possibly cause a problem as it's just there for the damper to bump into if it goes right to the top.

Pete
shouldn't there be a muck shield to prevent dirt ingress?
Homer
Thanks guys. Had another drive this evening and its sounds as though there's something major wrong, even the smallest pothole give a huge clunking sound. Since I bought the car 18 months ago there has never been any boots (or muck stoppers!) on the dampers, I assumed this was normal. The car is going to Max-GT on Saturday to hopefully solve my clutch problems, will get them to take a look at this to me thinks!
