Electrical problems! HELP (Half fixed now).

water would do this but moisture i dont think so would dry out as the fuse was getting hot and melting, to get over this you will need a multi meter mate , where the fuse was (take the fuse out) then put your meter on one side of where you fuse went and to a good earth and see what ohms you get each side and work back from there results depending

make sure you have a good contact with the meter test probs

also i would trace out that wiring that had the melted fuse and see if the actual wires them selves have melted in some way, hopefully it will be contained to just the lighting wiring.

I have just ordered one off ebay mate so I dont want to touch anything just yet incase I melt anything else. Im hoping it is just the lights or even better some dodgy fuses. I think its best to wait until I get the multimeter first as this will save me some grief.

Just to update I had a liitle spent the past couple of hours lookin for any melted wires etc but nothing. Also if it helps there is continuety from both fuses to both headlamp connectors on positive and earth.

As for the indicators the fuse named (turn) in the footwell is ok.

Just connected battery and tested everything and it goes -

Indicators flash once on disarming the alarm once battery reconnected.

Sidelights work along with instrument cluster lights.

Headlights not work but can hear a click on and off.

Main beam works with blue warning dash light.

Indicators not work, no clicking noise, no dash indicator warning lights.

Tried hazards and instrument cluster light went out along with side lights and blown the (panel) fuse in footwell.

Everything fixed except for headlights now :)

Thanks to this thread - http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?93662-Indicators-not-working

I had the wrong plug coming out the hazard switch from when I pulled the dash out  But swapped the plugs and I have indicators, dash lights, sidelights, main beam everything. Just the headlights now, its a 6k bulb conversion kit and it may be to do with that I dont know. I did notice the 2 box's under the headlights were making a kind of whining noise before they blue the fuses but dont know if that normal.

Well im half way to fixing this problem now so thats a good sign :)

Have you checked the wires feeding the headlights ? from the ballasts under the headlights ? is the insulation ok no nicks or damage ?

Yeah they look ok. I checked the circuit from the fuse holders to the headlight connector and theres continuety but I will have to wait until i get a multimeter to check if theres anything shortin out along the line before I start unwrapping the loom.

Does anyone else have headlight conversion to confirm the box's make a noise or not?

The two plugs that go into the hazard switch and the dash light cluster are different fitments to avoid mixing them up, how on earth did you manage that?

I'm now cheerfully fascinated at this whole process :D

Lol no I mean behind the hazard switch there are 2 connecting blocks that are identical but ones not used. I had plugged that in by mistake

Also, how did you check continuity without a multimeter? Just wondering as it may or may not be a valid test.

I got a little screw driver thing with a light on it and you touch the end on one side of the circuit and touch the other end with your other hand and it lights up if theres a circuit, its witch craft to me.

Just to update I have put new fuses in today and everything works fine, I had the headlights running for about 5 minutes and they still make a slight whining noise and when I took the fuses back out they were body tempreture warm I would say but nothing major. should fuses get a little bit warm? Also I turn my fogs on and rear ones come on but nothing on the front :conf: Where are the front fog lights?

On the indicator stalk. Lights on the end, little bit further down there's another twisty bit for the fronts. They're the outer bulbs in the front lamps.

Ahh so the buttons for the rears and twisty stalk bit for the fronts? How odd, i'll have to chech that tomorrow thanks :)

J-spec's don't have rear fogs, so they only had the fronts on the indicator. Not sure about the UK's. (Yes, I know UK's had to have rear fogs, just not sure on the controls before any smarty pants comments go up...) :D

Hmmm I have a UK so there probably all suppose to come on from the button on the dash. I have 2 tiny clear bulbs in the front indicators next to the orange ones that dont come on at all but I think they used to be side lights. Are front fogs built into the main headlamp?

If the headlights are the same as the ones in your avatar, you've got a little pimple in the headlights, right in front of the main beams, they're the sidelights, although you have got Facelift front indicators, which is where the sidelights are on a facelift, next to the indicator. The fog lights will come on with the sidelights being switched on even if both sidelight bulbs have gone, if the fogs are on. There's no tell tale like on the rears. Double check the indicator stalk for another switch.

Yeah I have the funny little pimple bit in front of the mains but theres a tiny orange bulb in them attatched to a long grey plastic thing when i take them out. They dont come on either I thought they were another indicator. I'll have to look on the stalk tomorrow as I must be missing something. I think the sidelights in my front indicators have been disconected as I have prefacelift headlights with the sidelights built in. But the lights that come on when I switch my sidelights on are the domed shaped outer lights in the main headlight.
