Converting to single turbo yourself, how much experience needed? What tools needed?

As titled I would like to get an idea if i am able to do a single turbo convention myself or if It's a much better idea allowing a reputable garage to do it?

 

I like the idea of doing it myself because instead of paying somebody to do it, I can use the money to buy tools and do it myself.

 

What specialist tools will I need or will be really good to have?

with the right tools , and if you know where to put all the parts needed. you should be able to do it in a weekend .

There`s no special tools needed, just a decent socket set with flexi coupler socket pieces( for those tricky to get to nuts/bolts) a cut down 14mm ring spanner is also useful, torque bar, grinder, big hammer and thats about it.

id have a go at turbo/manifold side, but when it comes to fuelling, ecu and so on id let someone else do it

Not hard if you are a little handy with tools, could be done in a weekend if it was a very straight forward simple setup. Just depends how far you go, mine was engine out and took me about 2 months doing around 3-4 evenings a week.

If you an engine and turbo lump together then you can assemble out of the car and lift in as you drop the old engine out.

its easy at the end of the day a turbo is just part of the exhaust system, you could easy do it in a weekend,but there will be bits that you will find out once its on that you need to do like fabricate the intake and intercooler piping
