mclarenross
Hi All, a couple of questions, see if anyone can help me out..... 1. I've just finshed installing my 1jzgte and I've put a new fuel pump in, however when I turn the ignition, the pump starts up and just keeps going, if I listen to the fuel rail it just sounds like it is continously gushing through the rail.. my friend said it might be the fuel relief value stuck open... not sure if these engines have one and if anyone has come across this before? 2. I was putting new auto transmittion fluid in the gearbox last night, ( i read on here that the box takes about 8 litres...!) I had put about 3-4 litres in the box, down through a long funnel, however when I took the funnel out for a minute, loads of fluid started coming back out.... anyone know how I can fill up the gearbox further or is it already full? do I need to move the selector around, or if when I fire it up it'll pump the fluid around the box...?? any help would be grateful. Alex
2. You can only exchange the volume of the gearbox sump using that method. This is usually about 2L's drain the sump again till the filler pipe has the oil level down to the max line. To change all 8l's in one hit requires an autobox specialist with a positive displacement pump and a ramp. As you basically run the car in drive, pump fresh oil in through the rad cooler intake hose and fire out the rad cooler exit all the old oil. 1. I think thats normal, but i'd wait for another opinion. Edited September 19, 2012 by Alex (see edit history)
mclarenross
thanks Alex, that makes sense!, regarding point 1. the pump is running all the time... quite loud...as if its constantly priming..?
Alex
As long as the fuel isn't peeing into the cylinders it's ok. Don't forget your pump is probably noisier than stock and more powerful. Mine runs on the ignition, and the engine fired fine.
mellonman
in regards to the fuel pump maybe it has a 12v mod that has not used the fuel ecu signals to control a relay, the problem with just the ignition feed is that it wont cut out in a crash! not too serious but could be

mclarenross
Guys, i've checked and it hasn't had the 12V mod, so thats not my problem... I need to know if it is normal for fuel pump to be on constant.? and what is the safety feature to cut the fuel pump incase of bump? should fuel pump feed be from ignition ,ecu or alternator? mellonman
no it should not be on constent, it will prime once for about 5 -10 seconds once you have put the key in and turned, this thread might help you http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?276099-Hi-2JZ-Hilux-Pics-amp-problems it has some info with how the fuel ecu works Edited October 2, 2012 by mellonman (see edit history)
