Parry_10
I want to make 650hp with my build and will probably use a 67mm turbo, what would be the best cams to go for to achieve this? 264,272? stock cams? also can increase the rev limit to 7200 without uprating the valve springs? cheers

Paul Whiffin
7200rpm will be fine on a stock engine as long as everything else is good condition and the engine is setup correctly. I would recommend my own 264 cams, (well I would do!), fitted to lots of BPU and small single cars, link here http://whifbitzperformancetuning.co.uk/toyota-aristo-engine-parts-engine-upgrades-garage-whifbitz-p-12443.html always in stock. Luxluc
264 are ok for the power you are after.

Geo
264's all the way. i had staggered ones in mine, 254/264 and it made 700+
hodge
Iirc, the Brian crower 264 cams have a higher lift than other 264s on the market and there cheaper too. The Brian Crowers have a lift of 9.52/9.52. I've got them fitted in my own car and there great. I made 778hp at the hubs, which is whatever at the "steering wheel" without any issues. Ryan said because of the lift, they would be fine for 1000 flywheel hp. Edited September 11, 2012 by hodge (see edit history)

mellonman
cams move the power band dont they? is there cams that give a better low down power to help turbo lag?
Lee P
Deffinatly 264's, we had kabir's car on the dyno Monday. 71mm DBB precision turbo, my 264 cams, stock valve train, stock intake, stock auto box with twin coolers and it made 700hp at 1.6 bar pulling all the way to the redline. We had to turn it down a bit before we gave it back to him didn't want him cooking the box although it was prefect on the dyno no probs at all. Lee P
is that a totally stock engine other then cams made that power? Yes, the stock engine is fine reliably upto around 750hp after that you risk the rod bolts failing. Also the limit plays a part, keep the rev limit sensible and its fine.
