scott87
Im having a little trouble starting the Supra. It is only when cold but it takes quite a while to fire up. Everything is sounding as it should but the car doesn't actually fire. I had all of the ht leads removed to check them and the plugs so im wondering if this is why, or perhaps it is just a sign that it needs a new set of plugs? I also have heat shield rattle. Do i try and fix this or wrap the exhaust. If i wrap the exhaust is this ok to do with a standard exhaust and what wrap should i use etc etc.
Lude
I would imagine fixing the hewt sheild easier than wrapping the exhaust. Iv no clue on the starting issue im sure someone will advise...
Dnk
Did it start playing up after the plugs were checked ? I assume you have an NA ?
listy
Check you actually have sparks from the plugs first and foremost if you have had the HT leads and sparks out. As for the heat shield, its a common annoyance and the majority just remove it. Wrapping a stock exhaust is fine. Just standard exhaust wrap from halfords will do. Just wet the wrap before using it, as when the heat from the exhaust dries it, it will shrink and pull tighter onto the exhaust.

I assume that most of the stuff on ebay is cheap twonk.... The starting issue has been after removing the leads. But it is only when cold, but i would imagine if the pugs need changing this would be the issue anyway
Nic
What spark plugs did you fit?
scott87
What spark plugs did you fit? I havent fitted new plugs yet. I removed the ht leads and inspected those and the area around the plugs to check for oil etc....
scott87
I also have found some corrosion to the brake lines at the rear on the passenger side. After checking them it is all surface rust but is obviously an issue. Should i rub them down and apply loads of copper grease or just chuck grease on as they are? Here is a pic so you can see what i mean. The pic does make it look a tad worse than is.
Dnk
Replace them
scott87
Replace them Um never done brake lines before, is it a difficult job? They are purely surface rust as mentioned, can they not just be coated? The car has literally just passed an mot with them.... I changed a clutch line on the mr2 and this was the worst job i have ever had to do! If i do change them can i just get a roll of copper pipe and run this? Would a garage charge much to do this type of job as it would surely be quicker than removing everything to put the standard ones on.... scott87
Also to do new lines with a roll of copper i would need a flare tool, and the correct size connectors, not sure if these are readily available?
