Pros/cons of using divided manifold with undivided turbo?

I am looking to fit a T4 undivided GT3582R 0.82A/R to my non-vvti 2JZGTE, the only thing is the Sinco manifold I am looking to order is available as divided or undivided T4 options. Could I benefit at all using the divided manifold with the undivided turbo and could it improve spool slightly or could it have a negative effect on spool? If it could have a negative effect obviously I will go for the undivided manifold but if it is an advantage I will go for the divided one! Any help would really be appreciated!

I was only thinking if I get a bit of extra spool by going with the divided manifold (without divided turbo housing) and it gives me the opportunity to go fully divided if need be in future, surely it would be the better option? My only concern is if it is better or ideal to match both manifold and turbo housing (both undivided in this case with GT35r) then that is the way I will go. The Sinco manifold I will be buying looks a very good quality item and I have only read positive feed back on the Aus and NZ Supra/Skyline forums. I have an SPA cast manifold but have decided against after looking at the Sinco tubulars...

There's no gain in using divided manifold on undivided turbos, but there are problems the other way round.

 

Thanks, ok so if there isn't any gain could there possibly be a slight potential loss or increase in lag by going divided manifold and undivided turbo rather than matching both turbo and manifold and going undivided with both?

I have a whifbitz divided manifold with a gt35 undivided turbo and there is no cons what so ever. It spools great, pulls hard and goes like stink!

You don't by any chance have a dyno printout I could take a look at? Are you running standard cams with yours? Is yours 0.82A/R housing too?

I'm very sure you will get more spool from using a divided manifold (with undivided turbo) based on dyno sheets I have seen with people using this combo. In fact on one thread in the USA it spooled the undivided turbo almost as well as if was a divided turbo.

I havent a clue mate it was fitted when I bought the car but from this picture here it says on the front .70A/R

That's the compressor housing A/R, which is 0.70 on the GT35R, the OP was talking about the turbine A/R 0.82

 

I used a divided HKS manifold with undivided GT35R T4 0.82 A/R, see my garage for dyno at 1.3bar

Yes, it was in this thread below where they tested two different manifolds. The Precision 6266 CEA Journal Bearing Undivided T4 .81 A/R was the one that was spooled extremely well by the divided manifolds they were testing. See my post #138 and post #144 in this thread and the dyno graphs at the beginning of the thread.

Thanks, interesting read that. I know I look into things a bit too much, but surely there is nothing wrong in finding the best set up possible while I have the time still waiting to get my engine back :/...

I looked at your set up Nick and noticed you were running 1.3bar on your set up. I am looking at running slightly higher boost up to 1.5bar but pretty much the same set up as yours was. I have an SPA cast manifold already but have decided against it at the moment... the wastegate port was supposed to be 35mm and I was planning to simply open it out a bit to 38mm to run with a 38mm wastegate- but seriously it is more like 33...

I have been looking into 6boost and Sinco Customs manifolds and I have decided to try the one Sinco offer. Very reasonably priced with 3.7mm tubular steel runners... I will get some pics taken when mine arrives.

I couldn't help but come across this thread this morning; clearly showing damage to the 'divide' on a divided manifold when used with a non-divided single entry turbo:

I know this may well be a freak incident due to excess EGT, but seriously could be enough proof to prove it is a better set up or ideal to match both the turbo housing and manifold port when selecting a turbo and tubular manifold.

I have decided to play it safe and match both turbo housing and manifold- so decided to go with undivided turbo and manifold to match. I can't see lag being much of an issue anyway considering I will only be going for GT3582R with 0.82A/R...

 

Lag will definitely not be a problem once the car is moving, your GT35R should start to make positive boost just over 2K rpm.
