ballsdeep
After fixing my swimming spark plugs with help from fellow members I'm now searching for answers to my whistle noise after fitting a 1st decat? I wouldn't have thought it was a blowing noise but could be wrong, has anyone experience this before? the noise is more apparent 3 and 5 secs into recording. Scooter
mate I had exactly the same with that very cat, it was my first ever decat and I had a completely stock exhaust and so thought (after little response to my thread on the whistle) that it was must be one of those "that's what they do sir" noises...... ballsdeep
Mmm I wonder if that's how they sound then?? Iv got crush gaskets on and I used some exhaust paste to be sure, so i wouldn't have thought it was blowing..
Scooter
I fitted it, thought it was my fitting and that I had a gasket issue at some joint or other, I went through it all again with more care and paste etc only for it to be the same. I then refitted the stock cat and no noise............frustrating but I can whip the whole manifold on and off quick now i've had so much practice! The only thing I can think is that the crush gaskets aren't ideal and perhaps it needs those metal/paper ie thin/flat gaskets?
ballsdeep
Anyone running double decat or even just 1st decat could you please advise if you have used gaskets or paste to fit? Thanks
d-_-b
I've got a branch manifold & a 2nd decat, used gaskets & gasket paste. First did without the paste & just new gaskets and it blew even tightened up fully.
ballsdeep
same here, i first just used the gaskets and it was blowing and whistling real bad, then put paste on which stopped it blowing but not the whistle noise, these are similar to what im using. ballsdeep
After speaking with Paul whiffin I now suspect it might be the intake manifold, I previously took this off to paint and maybe not tightened it up enough? I'm guessing the noise was always there but came more noticeable after fitting the decat!
ballsdeep
So today I tightened up the inlet manifold bolts with no affect to the whistle squeak noise Im thinking it might be a pulley squeal noise? Only seems to happen under load on low revs then goes until I have to change gear and accelerate again. So basically 1st gear pulling off slight squeal then disappears change up to 2nd gear as soon as i start to accelerate squeal is back briefly then goes again?? Anyone experienced similar simptems? skippyboyo1
Check the bottle on the intake air pipe after the filter. With the heat from the manifold mine had a hole in and started making this noise. Remedy is to simply replace the bottle but turn it round. ballsdeep
Is this on a stock air filter system? Bought mine with a injen Induction kit fitted.. Im not aloud to play with my car any more tonight or the misses will disown me! So can't go out to check but I did manage to sneak out earlier and found the tensioner pulley has slight play! So I'm wondering if it's a bearing noise?
ballsdeep
update.. iv watched the vid again and pin pointed the noise to 3 and 5 secs into the recording, can anyone advise me on the typical places to look for air leaks.. im convinced its coming from near the inlet manifold but dont know what to check..? sometimes i can hear it if i blip the throttle, but is more noticable under load. if i get no luck off here il put in in the garage for a once over. thanks
berg
Sorry to bump an old thread but did you ever solve this? Mines doing the exact same after fitting both decats today I was thinking maybe its because they are new pipes and after a while the noise will settle but ive read a few threads where people have the same problem after first decat
Josh42
I found it to be the gasket between the throttle body and y pipe was bent and not sitting flat.
berg
I found it to be the gasket between the throttle body and y pipe was bent and not sitting flat. Hmm ill have a look at mine and see, just wierd how its started doing it as soon as decats are fitted just like the 2 guys above
ballsdeep
Turned out to be blowing after all! Put some exhaust sealer around the joint and it stopped for a while. Try loctite 5920
