Noz
Lovely, think I'm going to go 1UZ route instead now actually, and Geo, i think N/A engines are even cheaper than that tbh, closer to £200 I think I paid £75 for mine. 300quid would be a rip off! Morpheus
Morpheus might appreciate that one? Wow, you are showing your age Dave! I'd heard of him but had to look him up as I'm only a spring chicken of 43. I used to own a GMC Jimmy though, as it happens. Hence the Typhoon in the garage. David P
Wow, you are showing your age Dave! I'd heard of him but had to look him up as I'm only a spring chicken of 43. I used to own a GMC Jimmy though, as it happens. Hence the Typhoon in the garage. When I was a lad I met him once, he was an awkward little feller of the opposite nature to his stage character, a very odd bloke? I just Google'd "Jimmy Cliotheaero" and it goes straight to him and links it back to here, chicken or egg? https://www.google.co.uk/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ie=UTF-8&ion=1#hl=en&output=search&sclient=psy-ab&q=Jimmy%20Cliotheaero&oq=&gs_l=&pbx=1&fp=59c55e3e28a4e30a&ion=1&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_qf.&biw=1639&bih=783 I hadn't realised Google was a Conundrum Cracker too! Excuse the digression. Edited August 25, 2012 by David P (see edit history)
Morpheus
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IS0EkMbKheE&feature=g-upl The video is a bit short and only gives a couple of seconds of noise but I think if the engine runs and actually drives, I'd inspect the rod bolts before buying another engine. You might have only spun a bearing. What's the oil like and if you cut open the filter and inspect it for debris, you'll get a much better idea if the bearings are all going to be shot or if there's no metal in it, you might get away with re-torquing the rod bolts. To replace the engine with an unknown one could be more trouble than it's worth, even if you do save some money. I know that I wouldn't fit an engine that hadn't been thoroughly inspected first, since there's always a reason why things are removed. If it lacked so much power as to make the previous owner think a TT was the only way to go, there was something wrong with it, since a decent NA will rip the skin off a TT for the first 10 metres due to it's higher compression. Ideally you'd have an NA-T and stay below 9psi. It's as good an excuse to go NA-T as any I can think of, if you can afford it. Just don't drive this engine any more in this condition, or you might throw a rod through the block. That's the next stage if it's a loose rod cap. How thick and black is the oil exactly? This can only be caused by poor maintenance imho. These engines are bullet-proof if looked after. Quite unusual actually, this sort of thing.
