Real time info from standard VVTi ECU

Recommended Posts

After some code from Konrad I can now connect my smartphone app "Torque" to my 98 VVTi to get loads of info from the various engine sensors.

Very handy for anyone with a VVTi (Not sure about pre VVTi facelift) with the OBDII Port.

Total cost of £15 for the app and adapter, quite pleased :)

Quick vid of it working:

(p.s the AFR wont read correctly until the car is warm on closed loop)

Android App: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsIm9yZy5wcm93bC50b3JxdWUiXQ..

Adapter: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/320960081565?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_5501wt_1163

You then need to add this custom "INIT" code when you set up the vehicle profile in torque: ATIB 96 \n ATIIA 13 \n ATSH8213F0 \n ATSP4 \n 0100

Ah that sucks.

I'm guessing the diagnostic port is OBD1 then?

i'm sure i did read at some us forum how to convert your diagnostic port to obd2 one and get reading from ecu as i would be suprised if they used different protocols between pre and facelift cars.

Forgot to add - torque will also read and clear fault codes at least on vvti one (tested).

I've Torque on my Android phone and I use it with a Bluetooth adapter on a couple of other (OBD2) cars we have.

I bought a cheap Toyota diagnostic port to OBD2 adapter off eBay to try on my (OBD1?) UK model. It fits perfectly, but sadly the set-up doesn't give any results on the Torque app - in fact, the Bluetooth adapter doesn't even show any signs of life - the LEDs don't light up.

I didn't really expect it to work, but thought it was worth a try for a fiver for the adapter.
