simbasupra Posted August 23, 2012 Share Posted August 23, 2012 Hi I'm planning on going BPU and was wondering if this could be done in stages? Or should it be done all at once. From what I can make out, as I have a UK spec if I fitted a double decat and new exhaust the boost would only raise to 0.85 bar. To raise the boost to 1.2 I would have to fit a boost controller. Would I need a FCD, new fuel pump, colder grade spark plugs for it only running at 0.85 bar? Or could these items be purchased when I purchase the boost controller and go up top 1.2 bar? johnny g Posted August 23, 2012 Share Posted August 23, 2012 I think you'll be ok with things at 0.85bar. Above 1bar you'll need a FCD to go with the Boost Controller. The UK fuel pump out flows the Jap one, so you should be ok at 1.2bar - however, it'll be old now, so for £100 I'd get a Walbro. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
listy Posted August 23, 2012 Share Posted August 23, 2012 With a UK spec, there is no need for a new fuel pump, as the UK spec pump is good for BPU. FCD will be required if you want to up the boost, else you will keep hitting fuel cut. Set to (iirc) 9 if its an HKS one. Colder spark plugs are recommended regardless I guess. A front mount isnt necessary, really a personal preference. A boost controller is required so you can up the boost to that wonderful 1.2 bar. There is no reason why it cant be done in stages. Arrived yesterday so I haven't had a chance to fit it but prior to purchasing I asked an impartial contact in the motorsport industry for an educated opinion based on make and specs. He rates the brand highly and from a performance stand point he likened it to his own personal choice, the Bosch 044, so I'm expecting good things from it. You will be more satisfied with BPU feeling that extra power rather than builing it up slowly. You can do decent BPU set up for about £1k. I think its only financially wise to build up a single turbo set up bit by bit as its mega money.. I went BPU on the 1JZ for a damn sight less than a thousand pounds. The only new parts I bought were a restrictor ring and some gaskets from Chris Wilson and a wideband AFR meter from ebay. Walbro 255 is known for being noisey little pump compared to stock and some other aftermarket units. I could hear mine whirring away no problem.
