BPU in stages

Hi

I'm planning on going BPU and was wondering if this could be done in stages? Or should it be done all at once.

From what I can make out, as I have a UK spec if I fitted a double decat and new exhaust the boost would only raise to 0.85 bar.

To raise the boost to 1.2 I would have to fit a boost controller.

Would I need a FCD, new fuel pump, colder grade spark plugs for it only running at 0.85 bar?

Or could these items be purchased when I purchase the boost controller and go up top 1.2 bar?

Cheers

With a UK spec, there is no need for a new fuel pump, as the UK spec pump is good for BPU.

FCD will be required if you want to up the boost, else you will keep hitting fuel cut. Set to (iirc) 9 if its an HKS one.

Colder spark plugs are recommended regardless I guess.

A front mount isnt necessary, really a personal preference.

A boost controller is required so you can up the boost to that wonderful 1.2 bar.

There is no reason why it cant be done in stages. Mine is currently BPU minus fuel pump and FCD, and is 100% fine (except I want more power :eyebrows:)

for £100 I'd get a Walbro.

For £115 I got a direct replacement Aeromotive 340 lph fuel pump delivered within 4 days from the States.

Arrived yesterday so I haven't had a chance to fit it but prior to purchasing I asked an impartial contact in the motorsport industry for an educated opinion based on make and specs.

He rates the brand highly and from a performance stand point he likened it to his own personal choice, the Bosch 044, so I'm expecting good things from it.

If it lasts longer than a day it'll have the Walbro I fitted last time trumped anyway!

Is the uk pump plug & play with a jspec?

What's the part number for one & how much roughly for a uk spec pump?

No it doesn't fit in the j-spec hanger, it can be bodged to fit with a jubilee clip, but would be better with a UK fuel pump hanger.

In all honesty BPU is so cheap to do get it in 1 go mate. You will be more satisfied with BPU feeling that extra power rather than builing it up slowly.

You can do decent BPU set up for about £1k.

I think its only financially wise to build up a single turbo set up bit by bit as its mega money..

Paul offers a great BPU kit to make it easier

Regarding fuel pump I found my Walbro 255 most satisfactory and now I'm single I have gone for the 450 which is damn quiet..

Do you have a link to the aeromotive fuel pump?
