mclarenross
Hi Anyone know if the torque convertor from a 2jzge is the same for a 1jzgte? Are they essentially the same bit of kit?

V8KILR
You can compare the part numbers at this site: http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/q.html
David P
Yes. Edited August 24, 2012 by David P Got the Zeds mixed up (see edit history)
V8KILR
The part numbers are different: 1JZGTE = 32000-22170 vs 2JZ-GE = 32000-30270 so they are unlikely to be exactly the same, especially as 1JZGTE is 280hp and 2JZGE is 225hp. However the torque converter bolts are the same, so they may bolt up.
mclarenross
H guys, Thanks for the responses. David, are you saying that "yes" they are exactly the same? I will forever be in your debt!
David P
The part numbers say no, but I wager you a beer you wouldn't be able to find a difference between them. I have an N/A torque converter you can have for the cost of P&P. If you prove me wrong, I will refund the postage. Or maybe NeilTT has a Soarer 1JZ-GTE torque converter you could have? David P
Further to my previous post. Bell housings. 2JZ-GE has J1 1JZ-GTE has J2? 2JZ-GTE has J3 The J3 is 20mm deeper than J1 to accommodate thicker torque converter. I will measure the depth of the J1 and J3 later today and you can measure the depth of your J2. Maybe you have just won a pint off me and found a t.c. from Neil? mclarenross
Hey David , Your a star, I think I owe you a beer for the info, I've already got a 2jzge tc (spare one) and hense why i am trying to see if it'll fit the 1jzgte gearbox as I want to replace the one that's currently in there ( it's done a lot less miles in the 2jzge box)
David P
If it's not broken don't fix it, unless abused a torque converter can live longer than you. Re. post 5 & 8. Today I have taken some pics and measurements of 2JZA80-GE and GTE components. These pics and measurements will allow you to find the answer your original question. Bell-housing J1 2JZA80-GE 120mm J1 1JZA80-GTE 120mm J3 2JZA80-GTE 140mm Left- 2JZA80-GE right 2JZA80-GTE Torque-converter 2JZA80-GE 102mm 1JZA80-GTE must surely be 102mm 2JZA80-GTE 117mm Edited April 5, 2016 by David P (see edit history)
David P
Were my efforts worthwhile? Have you concluded your question? I am interested to learn the answer.
