Hi guys I got my supra about 6 months ago! It's a RHD jdm 1993 TT 6 speed with just over 60 000kms. I imported it from Japan. It arrived in Vancouver BC Canada were I picked it up and drove it 15 hours to Edmonton Alberta canada. The car ran top notch, I had zero problems at all. I had the car in Edmonton for the next month and it ran flawlessly. When it came time to bring the car back home I loaded it on a trailer and drove 2500kms home to Whitehorse yukon Canada. The second I unloaded the car an went for a rip I noticed a problem. At any gear as soon as I hit 3000rpm the car would start to sputter/ have a violent jerk. The second I stepped into it and past about 4000rpm the car would e perfectly fine as it seemed to over power te problem. I also noticed the idle wasnt the greatest either. It's been about 3 months now and we still can't figure out the problem. Iv had the car in Toyota and at a personal mechanic and they have gone over the whole ignition system aswell most of the sensors and everything seems to be fine they just can't find the problem. The check engine light is on and pulling code 13. That has to help pin point the problem I hope.

Hopefully you guys could give some ideas or possibly share similar problems youv had so I can try to find my problem!!

Thanks alot!

Crank sensor mate.

Edit: That's what the manual would have you believe anyway. Although I've seen a dodgy ECU do the same, simply swapping it with another cured the fault.

Should give you a place to start anyway.

The crank sensor was oscilloscoped and said to be fine.. However iv read that this happens alot an it's still a bad sensor, Im really hoping this could be my problem.

Thanks

The sensor may have appeared fine when they tested it, but say it only broke down (signal) at certain temperatures (say engine hot, or cold, or anything in between really), the oscilloscope wouldn't pick this up unless it was at that specific temperature at the time.

Does the fault come back instantly once you've cleared the codes?

Also, does the fault happen all the time or just at certain points in time (ie once it's upto temperature)?

Definitely sounds like sensor issues to me though.

It happens all the time hot or cold, also at times wen I am comming to a stop sign and come to a stop in neutral the car will just rpm drop and die! and yes the code is always there!

Same as before mate, I'd say crank sensor. Is there anyone you can "borrow" an ECU from to try, just incase it's the ECU at fault?

Edit: Plus trying another ecu is usually free :)

I achually just ordered a new crank sensor about 5 mins ago. So 6 days and it will be in. Im do a full single conversion so I really want to get it all fixed before I start the build. I have a aem ems That will be the new ecu aswell.... So I really hope the new crank sensor does the trick. I already swapped out the igniter with a known good igniter from my friends supra and my car still did the same thing. I also had coil packs switched out and I put brand new plugs in. I hope the new crank sensor works!!

Just a update here, we put a brand new crank position sensor in and it didn't help at all. No difference at all. The timing rotor is in perfect shape as well. We're going to test the signal from the computer. Any more input from you guys would be awsome.

Thanks again

Okay I will try my best, however the only problem is.... There's only one other supra in the city I live in, and it's a automatic I'm sure the Ecu will be different there for not even work?

Thanks again

The JDM TT auto ECU will run a JDM TT 6 speed but it will need to think the auto is in neutral and I'm not sure how to do that with the manual loom?

ECU wiring pins are: http://mkiv.supras.org.nz/images/specs/ttecu1.gif

Will even work the other way round but auto gears changes will be very harsh. :)

I think we're going to do a little more testing on the Ecu and look at the wiring a little bit and then go from there. Is there a chance the problem could be a fuel problem somweres or is that unlikely?

If the second turbo could be a possibility how would you be able to pin point that? Would putting the turbos in the true single mode do anything? Would that be worth a try?

Unless you were loosing a lot of fuel pressure it wouldn't do that. I still stick by the fact that it's electrical. Do you have some shitty fuel cut defender on it? What about de restrictor?

I would still be trying another ecu...... before even changing the sensors.

i have no fuel cuts or nothing, shes all stock. Im working on another ecu. Does stuff like this happen often? The car ran so good and then 3 days on a trailer and boom this problem came about. is there any way to test a ecu in the mean time while im looking for one to swap out?

thanks
