Geo
No noise at Idle, only when changing Gear. Pedal is stock no problem with that, only when changing gear as you can hear in the video. Im thinking that the car could have a Lightened fly wheel, but could be wrong, idea's guys. 1.18 secs in im blipping the throttle and you can hear it.... watch all the video as its apparent all through the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kYgMUidk5w Edited August 20, 2012 by Geo (see edit history)
Guest ugp
Or a knackered dual mass flywheel? If you load it up when pulling away (handbrake on etc) does the noise change?
Luxluc
Doesn't sound to me like flywheel. What about the diff. Isn't the noise coming more from the rear of the car?

Doesn't sound to me like flywheel. What about the diff. Isn't the noise coming more from the rear of the car? The noise is coming right uner the dash/Gear stick, which seems to me its clutch/flywheel sits
Guest ugp
Any noise from under the car with the clutch in or out? If it were a single piece flywheel you would usually hear the Getrag chattering away, they're quite noise'y boxes.

In neutral, clutch in and out no noise at all only when changing gear. when in gear, and driving i blip the throttle as if i had kanagroo petrol and i can hear the noise clattering away. tDR
Doesn't sound like the flywheel 'whir' you get from lightened units - more like a multi plate clutch type noise. You'd have a lightswitch for a clutch pedal though engagement wise. Get under the car and check all bell-housing bolts are done up tight and that the trans mount to the rear of the box is secure / not worn. Failing that - outside chance of something front suspension related post HSD install? Other than the coilover units themselves. Did you have any bolts left over? Was this noise present beforehand? Cheers, Brian.

He told you lol - the gearbox bell housing has an inspection plate on either side you can remove from underneath the car to have a look at the clutch without removing the box. Samurai 20V
My car also does some clonking and rattling when changing gear. On the advice of Chris Wilson, I tried Motul Gear 300, it quietened it a bit. He advised me to just leave the box alone, they are noisy. Next is dynamatting the tunnel to try and muffle the noise. I have a new TRD single plate clutch but my flywheel is original.
tDR
no ya spoon, to determine if its aftermarket or not? It'll have a big sticker on it saying "aftermarket, ya pie!" Seriously - bright coloured clutch cover plate typically, rather than OEM black.

Nic
If it has a lightened flywheel it would be rattly in neutral at tickover, the rattle would go when you pressed the clutch pedal. Other suggestions would be clutch release bearing or worn gearbox mount.

Geo
Little update video. We think it's a bearing that's gone. just about 3/4 inches from the prop into the box. Jurgen is going to fix or replace box. Just wanting ideas what it could be??
Ian W
You're not having much luck mate! Props to J for getting it sorted though.

Geo
Right, little update on this So Jurgen has replaced the Box, clutch, clutch mount, and the problem is still present. With more digging around the net, it turns out it looks as though i have a stuffed flywheel. Here is what im getting, with the noise being identical So im heading back to Jurgen's to get a flywheel put in. Drive home will be silent
Geo
Right, Getting a good few PM's about this now, so will put it to rest. The problem was the actual clutch, pressure plate, the fingers that grab. Easy way to solve it, is to replace all 3 parts of the clutch, this will solve it, pretty simple. Its not the gearbox, or flywheel, engine, its the CLUTCH! Replace all will be good.
