thedirtycat
Recently I noticed a strange whinning noise that only starts at high rpm. Not sure when exactly but maybe somewhere over 5000rpm. Guess probably closer to 6000 rpm it starts doing it. The other night I also noticed it seemed to suddenly have a little surge or power at higher rpm when I was accelerating like it wasn't pulling properly and then suddenly started pulling properly. I just had a load of the old hoses changed by Keron and he said the car seemed to pull ok but now it seems to whine at high rpm. Not sure if it had started doing it before. I guess its not to do with the turbos because they both seem to work fine when they kick in I think. Just found a video I have a video where I think you can hear it as the revs get high near the end of the video. It sounds lounder in person. I guess it sounds more like a whistling sound. In the video the sound doesn't last that long because I changed gear quite early. I don't think the sound was so bad in this video because I didn't notice it when I made the video but I can really hear it now. The windows were down in the video so probably makes it hard to hear the noise but its all I have at the moment. thedirtycat
Someone must have some idea ? I was thinking maybe something to do with the air intake ? I know someone said could be to do with the cambelt being tight or bearings maybe ? I know the video isnt great. I'll try to get a better video tomorrow maybe. Its quite in that video but its a lot louder when your sat in the car.
jazz1
You checked your pipes to the turbo for splits? Compressor surge?
Kaan W
Are you sure its not the cupra behind you?

Graham1984
Is that not just because your NA graham? No normally because I kidnapped her or whoever is making the noise on that day.
thedirtycat
You checked your pipes to the turbo for splits? Compressor surge? I recently had a load of older splitting hoses changed from new silicone ones. Keron did it not long ago. He didn't seem to think there were any problems but I hadn't noticed the noise until I drove back from his and accelerated. It seems like it was maybe doing it a bit before but had got worse so that I can really notice it all the time now if I do put my foot down and let it rev a bit high. Wouldn't it be make that sound as soon as boost came on and not at higher revs if it was to do with the turbo ?
thedirtycat
Women in the passenger seat whine. My girfriend just screams when the revs go a bit too high but it makes this sound you hear in the video always as soon as the revs get pretty high and stop when I change gear and as the revs rise again it starts sounding again. jazz1
If its boosting fine I'm sure your turbos are ok unless you have a split or leak somewhere, maybe shaft turbo play?
thedirtycat
If its boosting fine I'm sure your turbos are ok unless you have a split or leak somewhere, maybe shaft turbo play? Hmm, you think that would cause that sound at high rpm then? Is it easy to check the turbos out and would that be something I could sort out ? I wanted to maybe check the turbos etc because I wanted to go full bpu at some point but not on worn out turbos. I'm running standard 0.8 bar of boost now. jazz1
I may not be correct I'm just suggesting ideas as I also have sometimes a whine that comes and goes, Lee checked my car and said it's fine.

Ah thats interesting. I think it just worried me a bit the other night where it suddenly felt like it started pulling a bit hard harder at high revs like it was holding back for some reason or like it lost power for a split second. Either way it seems like a noise that shouldn't be there and I'm sure it wasn't before. I just hope the turbos are ok.
Nic
Leaking blow off valve or vacuum pipe would be my guess. You could try disconnecting the BOV and blocking of the pipes to see if that stops the sound.

a98pmalcolm
Its bound to be something small and I wish not to alarm but its that sound its usually the turbos dying. From what I have read anyway. Never experienced it myself.

All splitting hoses were changed then too. However the boost guage isnt working properly. its rattling and its reading 0.7 bar.
