Whitelightning
Thanks to Mark from MA Developments for tuning my car yesterday. TAZ picks up well and is producing a true 1.5 bar now. Adjusted water injection to come on earlier, semi-solved aircon switch issue with the ECU (Autronic) and identified a crank sensor problem (She safely cuts out at 7150rpm - which some 2000 rpm sooner than she is designed to go to) which I will speak to Terry S about later. Also if anyone is interested our BL74 practical stats, this tricked turbo comes on full boost at 5000rpm through the gears and 4500 in 6th. So It is my humble opinion that (despite the power) most of you are better off with the BL 61 or 67 series in the UK. I think the BL74 reacts like a GReddy T88, abeit the T88 produces a little more power (for you dragster nutters). I am finding TAZ to more behaved than WHITELIGHTNING, but this is due to Terry S working on the suspension and car setup and is not attributable to the choice of turbo. TAZ is not dyno'd yet but we think she sits around 500bhp. I would be interested to get her tested on a reputable dyno now she is tuned, just to see what torque that might be. I would also like to create a 1.8 bar map at a later date for meets and trackwork, but am not keen to go much higher. (Especially after the 4" BL exhaust upgrade). So if you have an Autronic ECU - get yourself down to Mark Shead in Maidenhead who is a whizzkid on the products. And Mark, get your Evo back on the road !! Guest Terry S
Couple of quick things: Think 9k rpm is a bit optimistic! The 74 GTS will kill a T88 when the boost is raised mate. Did Sheady add timing low down, as when she was stock compression she would spool about 300 rpm earlier than that, which is quicker than a T88
Alex
If a BL67 make 580 at 1.4bar I'm sure you're producing 600+ at 1.5! Why not swap in and try a BL71 or BL67 then? If you feel the turbo is unsuitable for the UK?
Guest Terry S
As Alex says it should be making more than 500 mate.
Whitelightning
Well a dyno will solve it once and for all. It just doesnt feel that quick yet. It could be a number of factors. The results I posted were from the road testing we did, Mark on laptop, me on 100% throttle at various boost settings. Terry advised 1.5 bar to be safe so I went for that as a higher setting on the SBC. She definately does not come on full boost (through the gears and not in 6th) below 5000rpm. I do know that I have some potential areas that could be leaking boost from intercooler piping to a "possible" hole in the intercooler (although I am satisfied this is not the case). Hey - I am not complaining, I simply though you folks might want my opinion and some source data from our testing Still much work to do on TAZ - which is what I like about our cars. Who wants a finished product ? We would get bored eh ?
Whitelightning
I am also concerned with the fault from the Crank sensor at 7150rpm. Mark said that Leon has the same sensor and he had no problems so it could be the sensor malfunctioning ? The Autronic doesn't know so it airs on the side of caution and cuts power. Terry any ideas on that one ?
Guest Terry S
Leon uses a differnt crank trigger. Tell Mark that one was modified by Ray Hall. Leon Runs an SMC, TAZ a SM2. The SM2 needs the modded trigger disk. It has never been an issue before so bit mystified.
Whitelightning
Ta Terry. Do you think the car unable to cope with 9k rpm after the engine rebuild ? Whats a sensible top limit then ? I was going to go for just shor of 9k tbh.
Guest Terry S
I always planned of 8k mate, but Kean has the same head set up and revs to 9k.
