Wez
Hey All, Does anyone know what the max current draw is for the stock front window motors? Thanks
heckler
what are the fuses rated at? - I know not the answer your looking for, but might a ball park figure
Chris Wilson
Cheap Chinese current clamp round the wiring bellow coming out of the door and you have your answer I would guess 8 amps or so. May rise to over 10 as the window shuts and the thermal cut out has to open if you don't take your finger off the switch. As Heckler says, what fuse are they on? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/AC-DC-Multimeter-Electronic-Tester-Digital-Clamp-Meter-Multimeter-Current-/270988292444?pt=UK_BOI_Electrical_Test_Measurement_Equipment_ET&hash=item3f1829315c
Wez
Will see if I can check later. I have refitted normal almost full weight doors with glass and need to wire up some window switches, ive found something suitable in Maplin but dont think they will handle the current, next option up are freaking huge
pedrosixfour
Why not just use the original switches? I have a clamp meter here, I'll go and see if I can get a reading on the door loom now for you. Meter is in the jeep which is out on a job at the moment Wez, I'll grab it when it returns if you still need the reading. If they do switch the full load, couldn't you add some relays of your own?
Wez
The window motors are very simple, ie two pins, switch the polarity to go either up or down, dont really want to be adding relays etc. This is not a stock setup, this is on my track car so no wiring to the doors, no stock switches etc. At the moment I just hold some wires direct on the battery to go up or down I think these will do the trick http://www.maplin.co.uk/10a-toggle-switches-2360 15A Toggle DPDT Momentary £2.99 DPDT-Mom (ON)-OFF-(ON) Double-pole momentary, centre off
