ray007
Hi all need some urgent advice Just finished building a shell, instantly notice the right hand back wheel sticks out about 2 inches more than the left wheel? Any ideas? From underneath everything looks ok, only thing I can think of is wishbones? Any advice would be muh appreciated Cheers Edited August 5, 2012 by ray007 (see edit history)
Geo
pics would help matey, but from the sounds of it, your right wishbone could be fubard. Might have had a knock on them, although it take a good whack to bend one of those
Dnk
The wishbone/s would have to be broken to let one wheel stick out 2.5" more than the other side, even if you removed the bushes it wouldnt let the wheel out that much. Is it out in toe or camber or both ? As said already, pop some pics up Edited August 5, 2012 by Dnk (see edit history)
Guigsy
Maybe you have one wheel with more offset
DodgyRog
Sounds daft, but you have 2 wheels the same on the back:taped:
Dnk
Maybe you have one wheel with more offset I was going to say this but thought surely you'd know
ray007
Loll.. Thanks for the input guys Was just thinking about it and remembered the shell came with driveshafts but no diff. I believe it previously had a uk 6 speed diff and driveshafts and I use a w58/5speed LSD diff with the 6speed driveshafts... the driveshafts must be different lengths So am I correct in saying the right hand driveshaft ok a uk 6speed is so much longer than from a w58 LSD dif? And I think I did exaggerate on the inches, more like the right wheel is ticking out max 2inches mainly towards the rear of the wheel
Littler
Yeah the drive shaft on one of the sides for the big diff is shorter IIRC
Kirk
6 speed or 5 speed the left hand (passenger side) is the shorter of the 2 or so it should be unless its the other way round on the 6 speed (big diff). Dnk
The hub is held in place by the upper arm, lower arm no 1, lower arm no 2 and the strut rod, if you could fit the wrong length drive shaft it shouldn't affect the position of the hub or how the wheel sits. So what would be the effect of firing the wrong length driveshafts?
Dnk
Drive shaft lenghts------R/H---------L/H 2JZ GE-----------------598.1-------552.2 2JZ GTE MANUAL------598.5-------547.5 2JZ GTE AUTO---------598.5-------553.5 The drive shaft wont work how it was designed to as the suspension moves up and down and will cause problems in the cv joints. I'd take the shafts off and measure them but as i said i don't see how this can affect where the wheel sits as the hub is fixed apart from the adjustment you have for the camber and toe Edited August 9, 2012 by Dnk (see edit history)
