wallis
Have no idea of what the export process is for a car to go to the states from the uk? Does the car have to be inspected, log book in the new owners name or not? Costs? Any info much appreciated guys, googling now ;-) Cheers

Kaan W
I think if your moving over there you just pay for shipping costs and its roughly a grand after all the checks etc. Edited August 5, 2012 by Kaan W (see edit history)
spikedjack
I think the car has to be over 25 years old

V8KILR
I was just reading about this today on USA Supra forum and they were talking costs of US$ 200,000 - 300,000 to be able to import one in to the USA from Japan due to needing multiple car crash tests to be done, etc. However, there are some states like Florida that don't have this requirement, so it would depend on what state you were importing it in to. Once the car is over 25 years old though, its a much simplier and cheaper process. Edit: here is the thread http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?677215-JDM-1993-Toyota-Supra-TT-Import-to-the-US Edited August 5, 2012 by V8KILR (see edit history)
wallis
It's Florida, just seen a quote for a permanent export seems easy to do the dvla paperwork, £1500. Seems far easier/cheaper for us to export them than the yanks importing them??
JakeG
Edit, never mind had a read through them threads, seems you can bring it to another state on Florida plates, then register it in another state if you want Edited August 5, 2012 by JakeG (see edit history)
wallis
So say you brought your car into florida, would you have to live in florida or would it be ok to bring it into another state? I guess once the cars imported into Florida and has US plates, u can do as u please? It seems though to import it to Florida you have pretty tight laws with residency and importing etc to deal with! wallis
For permanent export Reading on u need to have US citizenship and it looks like u have to have a min residency in Florida of one year, so u can't just import cars through the state of Florida and live in another!
