Lude
so i finally got round to fitting a new tyre yesterday. when i say new, it was a part worn, bridgestone, lots of tread on. fitted it on the back, passanger side. after 20 mins i noticed that the steering wheel wasnt straight any longer, but it was turned right slightly right, when the car was going straight. the back end felt a bit "hoppy" and also twitchy, felt exact the same when the back right wheel bearing had gone. i had the rear passanger side wheel bearing replaced about a year ago, maybe the other side has gone now? can a iffy tyre cause such a feeling? or isit co-incidence one of my wheel bearings have gone just after ive got a new tyre? Nic
Have you checked the tyre pressures and had the wheels balanced?
Lude
i havent checked all the tyre pressures no. he did re balance the wheel yes, as when he put it on the machine with the new tyre he said it was way out. he asked me what pressure does he want me to put in the new tyre, i said 30 psi, i havent checked the rest of the tyres in the last 6 months id say, but i normally put 30 in.. the car was fine before yesterday, and there are no noises from the bearing. just feels not very direct on the back, bit crabby

David P
not that i cant be bothered, just something i dont do as often as should. That's 'can't be bothered' in my book. Your Supra is dying on it's feet purely from your ownership, I am wondering if it will be you or the next unfortunate owner who suffers the consequences? David P
Lude, I didn't say your car was excrement, more-like wiping your arse is maintenance. I have posted assistance before in your "it wasn't broken till I fixed it" threads. Excuse my observation. I work in a garage that sells part worn tyres and to me it sounds like the tyre is out of shape. this can cause a bearing noise, high speed wobble, geometry to feel wrong
-Welsh-Stealth-
How much tread is on the new Bridgestone & on the other rear? Big differences in tread depth can affect the car just as much as odd pressures in tyres. Or as above.a badly shaped tyre can cause noise, odd handling characteristics& can also lead to blowouts. And the same as a badly balanced tyre, put excessive strain on wheel bearings etc. When it was balanced did it balance up okay? Or did it ask for alot of weights a couple of times? Usually a sign something's wrong. Buckled rim etc. I'd suggest looking at tread depth. Tyre pressures done. Have a look at the tyre and run your hand along the inner wall of the tyre, make sure there's no bulges in the tyre. Have a look at the weights. There should be 2 groups of weights, inner and out lip. If they're randomly dotted around the rim I'd suggest getting it rebalanced. And finally see what a geo check finds. If a wheel bearing is gone or a busher this is something that the person setting up the car for a geometry should pick up on pre-checks. Hope you get the problem sorted. Lude
thanks mate. tyre looks brand new.. regarding the balancing, the guy said it was out then said it was ok after he adjusted it. iv jacked the car up there does seem to be movement in the wheel when testing the bearing though. im going to take it to my normal garage who do my tyres, and also get the bearing checked. it feels like when i had a bearing go before so i can imagine it being that again. guna get a new hub for it if it is that again... bigbloodyturbo
update: snapped coil spring. co insidence after new tyre :-) anyone have a set let me know Don't buy used springs, they're not to expensive from toyota, just buy a matching pair for which ever axle you need and fit them. Supra's are notorious for sagging springs, expecially on the rear and I can only imagine what having differing spring rates/heights on a certain corner of the car would do for handling. It would make the car unpredictable and dangerous especially if it was on the rear (driving wheels).
Lude
yea just been looking online that their not expensive new for stock. after lowered ones though looks like they all come in sets of 4 so prob will just do the whole lot found these seem to be tidy enough http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Toyota-Supra-Turbo-93-02-Tein-S-Tech-Lowering-Springs-/230659419158?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item35b45f6c16#ht_1921wt_1186 Edited August 17, 2012 by Lude (see edit history)
bigbloodyturbo
I'd go for Eibach's as that's the general concensus on what's best for the stock billies. (plus thats what I've got ready to go on lol)
